OK, so i'm driving home from work today, and the truck shift from first to second fine, then right as it's about to shift into third, it starts to stutter and the drops the gear completely, goes into neutral. Basically, i have no third gear....any clues as to what the issue is. The ECU is throwing a P0700. Any thoughts????

Thanks,
-Savage-

Yea, i checked what the code meant, but i meant if anyone had any suggestions on what to do about it / what might have caused it. I was changing my spark plugs last night and some coolant spewed aroung the engine bay, not sure that it was enough to cause issues though. It should still be under warranty, so hopefully i'll be able to get a fix for free.

Thanks for your help and happy holidays to all,
-Savage-

Unfortunately I can't help you with your tranny, but I am curious to hear how you managed to get coolant on everything while changing the spark plugs. ;)

Well basically, i forgot to let the engine cool before disconnecting the coolant overflow hose, thus causing the built up pressure to release...throwing coolant all over the engine bay....

Wow you are way more hardcore then me, I have the patience to let mine cool before reaching around a hot engine bay. Or maybe I am lazy.

After stripping out a plug (the threads in the aluminum head) in an old Grand Am I make sure that everything in and near the engine is stone cold. The head was slightly warped, I crack the ceramic on the plug, had to get it out. One heli-coil insert later, I was back on the road. Not a pleasant experience seeing a spark plug fire out of the engine and nearly embed itself in the radiator.

I <3 helicoils. Without them those of us that have stripped out the aluminum heads changing plugs know how much these have saved us. Without them, we would need to have pulled the head (all the valve train), redrilled and tapped a larger hole, and find a plug that fits the new hole. Use antisieze everytime you change your plugs, it will save a lot of headaches down the road.

Just out of curiosity, which tranny do you have?

Can't say thats ever happened to me......or anybody on here that I know of. I would definately send it back to the dealer, (and if your smart have it towed), definately should be a freebie fix.

it's the 4-speed auto, had it towed on Monday. Apparently a valve went and got chewed up in the gears or something so they're doing a complete overhaul due to the fact that there was shrapnel all over the place. They said something about a $100 deductable, but that's BS. I have the warranty contract still and it says that they'll pay 100% of the parts and 100% of the labor charge. SO HAH!!! Definately won't be going back there for anything except warranty work, it just seems like they're trying to put one over on me and i'm not sure that i appreciate that. Anyway, my KJ should be back on the road in no time and good as new (i hope).
