what are your guys thoughts on rebuilding a transfer case. Or is it going to be cheaper in the long run to just find a salvaged one? my T case is done.. just trying to decide what i want to do about it.. thanks

Depends on how much cash you wanna bow, go cheap and pick up a rebuild kit, if I were to replace it I would probably pick a 231HD or a 241OR. And then there is the expensive option of an Atlas or Stak box.

Which transfer case do you have? If it's a 231, junkyards are full of them for cheap, and worst you should have to do is swap out the input shaft.

The KJ uses a specific t-case,be it the 231,241,or 242.The same model t-cases will require modifications to work in the KJ.

You can get a brand new one from Wyckoff Chrysler for less then $700.

If you pay more then $200 for a used 231 t-case you paid to much.

didnt do anything.. been having a grinding noise coming from it for about 3 years.. took it to the jeep dealer and they said it was normal.. went last week to take care of some charging problems at my local mechanic and found that it was going out.. i used to do quite of bit offroading but never abused it . mostly mud and steep hills.. no rocks here by St.Louis really. it has probably been in 4 wheel drive about 4 times in the last 2 years.. only when we get a good snow do i put it in 4wheel drive .. guess i just have bad luck or got a poopy one from the start
