Congrats! these trucks are amazing
but on the hummer side of things... they have a trick that the
guy probably didn't know of... and if he had ABS in the 99 and
newer H1's he coulddn't use it... they call it BTM (Brake to
Manage) or something like that... you hold the brake to "lock",
in 4WL, both Diffs... very yard on transmission and from what
i gather hard to do...
i had looked into buying an older H1 (97.5 or 98) before i got my
liberty... i wanted a diesel 4 door truck and the libby wasn't out
yet... but i waited
..You might be thinking of (I think they called it) 'active traction control'.. He has Torsens front and rear, and by giving it gas while also applying the brakes it allows the torque to transfer to the wheels with more traction. ..Something like that, anyways. ..Then again, they may have lost the Torsens in the 'wussification' that led to it being renamed "H1".
Oh, and it was designed to work
with ABS..
In civilian H1's you had 2 choices in the diffs,Torsions or Detroit's E-Locker.Military HMMWV's get the Torsions only. ABS has nothing to do with either, and riding the brakes is not hard on anything but the brakes.
I worked on and drove them for 9 years and know what they can do and what they can't(which isn't much if trained right on one),there's nothing I haven't replaced/rebuilt on one and have drove them places that built TJ's/buggies would cringe at.You can not drive a H1 like a regular 4wd vehicle, otherwise you will end up stuck or worse rolled.
