Wouldn't even dream of it. Your kj will never pass emissions. First the cat may not clean the exhaust gasses like your oem one and second, here in Colorado, a certified emissions facility can only install it, and at that, i don't think they would do it with a warning like this
NOT FOR SALE OR INSTALLATION ON POLLUTION CONTROLLED VEHICLES IN CALIFORNIA.

what is it exactly that you are looking for from your exhaust?

I suppose it depends on the laws up there in Canada, not California.

Unless I missed something when I was last under it, I see one cat right before my muffler... And what I'm looking for? more air flow, the ilusion of more performance, the illusion of a deeper more defined sound, and most importantly, a project. So lets not talk about the benefits, and lets just talk about what needs to be done pleaseeeee :)

You missed something, or actually 2 somethings. Follow from the exhaust manifolds and you will find 2 more cats before getting to the 1 you found. Good luck getting anyone to touch them if you have less than 80k miles or 8 years on them. I'm at 76k and 7.5 years right now. I've got a set of headers sitting in a box and I will be getting the cats replaced with high flows very soon.

So why so many cats? This might be stupid, but when I look at cat back systems for the KJ, there seems to be a cat and a muffler, not 3 cats and a muffler?

As far as why 3 cats, just go with that's how they designed it. If you have enough miles or age on the cats, or there is something wrong with them, you can replace them, but you can not just remove them. That's a $2500 fine each for federally mandated emissions equipment. If you want to get more air through it, I don't know how much help higher flowing cats will give you alone. I've got a Fastman throttle body and machined and polished heads to help mine inhale some more air.

Cat back systems do not include any cats, hence the name "cat back" which means from the cat back to exhaust tip.

Here is a pic of the other 2 cats your not seeing, circled in yellow.

to answer your original question, I have used dynomax high flow 3-way cats when I made my scrambler smog legal. They flow awesome. I have true duals, and one on each pipe kept me legal running a 4bbl holley on a straight six motor. I also put one on my friend wrangler with a 4.3 and a sigle exhaust. His smogged fine too.

A CJ8 is not held to the same emissions standards as a modern vehicle.

And how do you have true duals on a 258? 3 primaries for each collector?
