custom sub box

any one meak a custom sub box that fits under the back seat ???/ :?:

i dont think it would be a big enough area to put a speaker down there. maybe a 6 1/2, but that may be it. i just bought a JL built box and stored it in the back attached the amp to the box. now some people put speakers under the front seats. maybe they'll chime in.

I've been wondering the same thing. I want a sub but don't want to give up any precious space in the rear.

Somebody has to have something workin...

You can fit two 8" subs under the front seat. My cardomain link below shows the box I built under my front ones. Oh, and that assumes that you do not have power seats. One COULD be made to go under the back seat too. I've seen it done and/or could do it. You would lose the ability to lay the back seat down though. That's a huge loss for me. Maybe it's no big deal for you though. Other alternatives could be the glovebox area, and/or the area under the steering wheel.

those are nice...how much volume did you get out of them?

I have power seats in mine, and I also made custom front underseat enclosures for 8" subs. I was able to get almost .4 cu ft. out of each.

a custom enclosure under the rear would indeed render the folding function useless. There is actually a decent amount of room on the passenger side underneath the interior panel where you could probably get enough volume out of for an 8" sub. There is a cavity maybe 5" deep into the quarter panel, with an opening of about 10" long by 6" tall. It would involve cutting a hole in the plastic interior panel for the sub itself, but there should be enough volume for decent sound.

I was thinking of putting one under the rear deck i built

but then i couldnt carry all that cra.....stuff

I estimated about 0.33 cu ft of internal space in my sub boxes (each). The power seats must not change it that much if you got .4 under yours.

I had to extend the enclosure as far forward as possible to get a reasonable volume.

I see. Nice work. I am considering redoing mine and trying to fit a couple of tens. They would be tens that could handle 1/2 cu ft airspace. It doesn't look like (from the depth of yours) that you didn't cut the carpet out. I did and it gives 2 to 3 more inches of depth. It's not noticable afterwards. Besides, my carpet had a hole burnt in the back passenger floorboard when I bought the jeep (with 27,000 miles), so I planned on replacing the carpet eventually anyway. Not sure I will now, probably just get some slush liners.

Right-O!...I didn't remove the carpet. But that 2-3" of extra height would have been helpful because these are a tight squeeze...I had to relocate the heated seat electrical harnesses because they protruded into the space.

I actually made an impression of the space using 2 part insulating foam, and 2 giant ziplock bags. I lowered the seat to the lowest position, inserted the bags into the space, filled the bags with air from the compressor to get them to expand and form to the space. Then I just sprayed the instant cure A B foam into the inflated bag. 45 seconds later, the foam had fully cured, so I removed the seat and pulled the foam filled bag out. I then peeled the bag away from the foam, trimmed the impression to size with a serrated bread knife and vacuum bagged it with 6 layers of fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. It's amazing how thin 6 layers can get when vacuum bagged. After that I used fiberglass mat, fleece, and some carbon fiber cloth I had laying around to reinforce it. The 3/4" MDF top was easy enough to route and epoxy on.

In retrospect though, your method seems easier, cheaper, and less time consuming.

Good luck fitting 10s in between the seats...it's going to be a tight fit.

I believe there are several aftermarket companies who manufacture more rugged solutions for moulded interior carpet.
