I thought that all recent Jeeps were covered under the 7/70 powertrain Warranty.... Was it only a select few? I have a 2006 LTD Liberty that I dropped off at the dealership today to get an oil change, Brake Line flush and to get the leak fixed on my front-diff drivers-side driveline and they told me that the WHOLE vehicle was only covered under the now expired 3/36 warranty... WTF? Are they jerking me around here?

This is what needs fixing and I shudder at the thought of what it will cost....

That should be covered.. At least according to the local dealer (not where I bought the Jeep; Ive moved since then) who have always been great to me.

I was talking to them about the 7/70 (and now lifetime on new Jeeps). I was told it covers engine, tranny, transfer case (if so equipped), and front and rear axles. ..I would imagine that would mean seals, but Im not 100% sure.

Try a different dealer?

That's what I was thinking: it should be..... As far as I can recollect, the dealer sticker that was in the window of the Jeep had a little symbol on it that looked like this:

You pay extra for it. If you didn't pay extra, I doubt you have it;)

Same thing with the 7/70. The 7/70 quit back in late 05 or early '06

How do you figure?

It says it is included on all new vehicles..

2006 and newer Chrysler vehicles could qualify for a Lifetime Powertrain warranty or upgrade to a full bumper-to-bumper Lifetime warranty. You must be the original owner. Viper, all SRT vehicles, Sprinter, Ram Cab/Chassis, diesel equipped vehicles and some non-personel use vehicles are excluded.

Hm. Interesting. "Could qualify" doesn't tell me it's "included on all vehicles", especially when it says Viper, Sprinter, Ram C/C, SRT vehicles do not qualify.

I am wondering if I could get the 7/70 coverage on a technicality; even though the Jeep is an '06, I bought in October of '05 when vehicles then definately seemed to have this warranty coverage....

That is when they stopped offering the 7/70, IIRC.

Worked at a Chrysler dealership at the time.

Sorry 'bout your luck

Ditto. Jan 05 In service date at 99 miles.

Thought it went right from 7/70 to lifetime at some point with no drop-off..? ..I remember being a tad miffed because I could have gotten the lifetime if I had only purchased the Jeep a few months or so later.

..Sorry for saying "all new vehicles" ..That was too broad of a generalization - I drank my breakfast today. We were talking about Liberties at the moment, and I should have been more specific.

Lifetime powertrain = no cost.

Lifetime bumper-to bumper = additional cost.

You don't want that lifetime powertrain warranty,if you read the fine print you will not want it.

what's wrong with the Lifetime Powertrain warranty? Really hoping I have it right about now since I am waiting to hear back from the Service Department about how much they think it will cost me to get this fixed... I could have sworn I had this coverage judging from what I remember the Dealership's window sticker saying...

If you get a strict dealer the lifetime warrenty is about useless.

Why so worried, you got lucky it's the drivers side seal leaking and would only take about 1 hour to fix and maybe $20 for the part.

Thats actually what Ive since heard, but I am too lazy to actually read the fine print since it doesnt really concern me.. Something about regular 'check-ups' or something.. Lots of hoops to jump through..

Save yourself about $370 and do it yourself, like I already said it takes less then 1 hour to do and the seal should be had for $10-$20.No special tools required except for a 35mm socket to take the axle nut off.

I know on CRD's 05 had 7/70 standard and 06 had 3/36. I thought that was a CRD thing - may have been all Jeeps.

last December (2007) I bought an '06 ltd with low miles.. I inquired about the 7/70 an was told it was optional in place of the 3/36... Why optional... 3/36 is bumper to bumper while the 7/70 is only 2/24 bumper to bumper and 7/70 powertrain... I was told these same details by three differant places ( 2 Jeep dealers, an Dodge dealer ) mine was a former rental so it definatlydidn't come with the longer powertrain...
