GM may offer a 330 HP diesel for 2010 SUV

"General Motors says it may offer a 330-hp diesel V8 for its largest SUVs by model-year 2010. GM is cagey about details for now, but says this new diesel will be a 32-valve dual-overhead-cam design--and clean enough for sale in all 50 states. GM projects a Yukon so equipped would get around 28 mpg in city driving vs. 21 for a comparable gas-engine model."

Looks like a misprint on the mileage, I'm sure they are meaning highway instead of "City"

could be city... my dad 05 2500 ram get 23 to 30 in the city when he isn't racing around, but it has an intake, chip and power service/ 2 stroke added to every tank

I average 25 mpg on the highway in my 06 2500 Ram, I've never calculated city mpg.

do you have an auto or manual? also, how many miles?

nv5600, filled with royal purple
diffs and tcase filled with royal purple

as said before 10 oz of power service Grey bottle per half tank with a 128 to 1 ratio of 2 stroke

in the winter months with the blend diesel, we end up dropping down to 20 to 24 in the city and if we have the bfg tako's on, its 18 to 20. If he lugs it in 5th below 60, the evic will register 35+ constant. high way mileage seams to be the best between 65 and 70 @ 30 mpg, but drops to 26 @75 to 80mph. If were climbing I 70 going up to eisenhower tunnel @ 80 with our fishing gear, it drops to around 8 :twisted:

Just rolled 40,000 miles, 4 speed auto (48RE), Short Box, 4X4, Quad Cab

Is the 30 mpg hand calculated?

ok, well that explains the lower mileage, you are just now finally loosing up were are @ 59,xxx. And yes, we have been rebuilding a Subaru out in Bennett for the last 4 months. that 30 is a combined trip to Bennett. It's like 11 miles from my house to I70,then I70 to Watkins, Watkins north to 88th and east 5 miles. than back to the flying J

A 4x4 Yukon gasser that gets 21MPG in town. Maybe a Hybrid but even that is pushing it.

My previous 2003 RAM 2500 Quad Cab SWB CTD 4x4 w/305*555, NV5600, and 3.73:1 best fuel economy was 21.7 mpg hand calculated, on a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC one year.

My current 2007.5 RAM 3500 Laramie MegaCab 4x4 w/6.7L (350*650) and 68RFE six speed auto and 3.73:1 has hit 17.1 when driven like grandpa with good quality #2.

I have an 04.5 2500 long bed quad cab, 2wd with nv5600 on 3.73 gears.

Even now in the winter, i'm routinely getting 22-23 in town and 25-26 on the highway, and that's with 600lbs of sand in the bed for traction (all hand calc'd).

In the summer with warmer temps and no more winter blend fuel I've seen just shy of 30.

FYI, this engine was supposed to be the new engine for the 1500 series trucks (like 4.5L or something like that). It had the breathing reversed (exhaust ports + turbo) was in the Vee of the engine, but last I heard the development had been put on hold indefinitely with the economic situation, so I doubt you'll see it for 2010.

Ford also had a small diesel for the F150 to come in 2010, i think that's been put on hold -- so far, the Cummins 5.0L in the 1500 is the only one I know of still on target.

yep

i kinda cry when i think about my moms burban, she is is getting almost 18mpg out of it in the city. as for me, i can squeeze 16.5 in the summer if im lucky

gsbrockman, what modifications did you run on your 03? With the right modifications, the 04.5 - 07 5.9 should easily get 23 mpg on the highway with just a muffler swap, a quality air intake, and a module or chip. Wind is always the biggest factor, but I can always achieve at least 22-23 mpg even with a good headwind. 25 mpg is about my average. I know a few guys who run the Smarty and they all seem to average 23-24 mpg on the highway.

I only get 20 Hwy in my 97 Club Cab. Of course it is a lifted 4x4 pushing BIG Revos and has a #6 fuel cam. I have gotten as much as 25 MPG with a strong tail wind and doing only 55 MPH.

I'd echo what Mr Mopar said... from what I have read (recently), both GM and Ford put their diesel v6 programs on hold. Ford has hinted they will drop it all together in favor of direct injection/turbo charged gassers. Cummins/Chrysler is the only US manufacturer still in the game at this point.

The next small diesel SUV/truck on the horizon is the VW Toureg 3.0 TDI, using the same engine as the MB 320 diesel (and which the defunct Grand Cherokee CRD used an earlier version of).

Just read Diesel Power Magazine:

"The next generation Tahoe, Suburban, and Escalade are a no-go. (Cost-cutting). So will the current generation trucks get the 4.5L Duramax?"

"The plan for a Ford F-150 with a diesel is dead, or at the very least will be the last 1/2 - ton diesel to market"

Threeweight, According to the VW dealership, they told me that VW is cutting back on their cuttent TDI's and it's not looking good for the VW Toureg...................... :cry:

The truck is bone stock other than having had the resonator on the turbo intake removed and has 153460 miles on it now, all stock exhaust and no chips.

My fathers '01 Ford SD get's 20mpg's in town,24 on the highway when I'm driving it unloaded,got 18mpg's towing my 6000lbs Blazer on a 2000lbs trailer.My father can only get about 15mpg's highway,10 in the city but he's a maniac.It still gets 9mpg's towing 24,000lbs,not bad.he's got a 150HP BullyDog chip,5" straight pipe(downpipe to exhaust tip),and just a tad over 620,000miles on her the last time I talked to him(original motor+trans).
