Need to fall back and regroup on this one, NC - soft seals intended for gasoline are not fully compatible with Diesel fuel, and some cases are not compatible - so far the Facet pump has been workable, simply because it has no soft seals: both one-way valves are hard plastic, could be nylon, but prolly poly - primary types to be concerned about are rotary impeller and diaphragm, both requiring specific rubber compounds - the rotary impellers running in gasoline require lubricating properties, where those meant for Diesel fuel will be lubricated by the fuel

So what are these "soft seals" which are not compatible with diesel made from? Vitton? Santoprene? Neoprene? Nitrile? Natural rubber? You are not spreading myths without researching them are you GM? Perhaps you are aware of a new material being used in pump construction which is inferior to those which have been used for the past 30 years. Remember that we are not talking about a pump for Biodiesel but rather for D2 which has fewer corrosive chemicals in it than gasoline. Of course if anyone wants to spend more money for a "diesel compatible" pump it is certainly their decision.
One thing to consider though is that if it is intended to be used for Biodiesel it definitely needs to be Bio compatible, because unlike D2 is a strong solvent of some gasket compounds.

I've raised the flag - it's up to you guys to re-search and prove me wrong, particularly soft seals, soft impellers, and diaphragms, all requiring rubber compound........................

The Dodge fuel sending unit I guess is the best way to go. now they were talking about the dodge guys running out of fuel at 1/4 tank, is that just because of the tanks length or will our jeeps run out at 1/4 tank too? The last 1/4 tank is small enough.

The aftermarket draw-straw modification was causative of the 1/4 tank problem, not the oem in-tank pump - I sugg they replace the Cummins LP module with the Jeep CRD module, and the problem was solved - I even sugg they modify the Jeep module using the straw, and the problem was doubly solved - the prob some here were having was with erratic fuel level sensing, due to the float-arm length, easily solved by clocking or switch the two float arms

I saw the article on the 1/4 tank limit - and basically below a 1/4 tank - you only had 5 small holes at the bottom of the pump for fuel to come in, that was suspected as a problem on the Cummins - but they didn't have data.

For the CRD - those holes may be enough to feed the engine and worst case - it's equal to no lift pump - and the CP3 has to pull a vacuum to the tank.
So it's not a show stopper - it is something to be aware of.

Does anyone know if they have to specify they are for diesel fuel. This one said for any
carburated engine. Also it said not having a pre-filter may void pumps warranty, does anyone know if we have a screen or something in the tank? But at under $70 it might me worth a try.

Went back to carquest and asked about diesel fuel compatibility and someone said it would not hold up long term in diesel fuel.
They had another universal diesel pump but it had 9.5-14psi and 40 gph. Is that too much for this set-up? part # e8153 about $89.

I looked at a Huco pump model 443000 on the box but can't seem to find a spec on it, anybody know anything about them. :?:

Why not go with a simple, cheap little Carter like this one:

Carter P74021, $70 for the kit, mounts inline, flow through, diesel compatible (folks have been using these on Jetta TDI's for years).

The Huco pump i looked at recently is a diaphragm pump so should i give it a miss although decently priced.

My Carter is a diaphragm too.
Same body and size as the GMC with barbed hose fittings instead of threaded fittings.
The complete GMC package has better vibration isolation than my bolt on the frame with rubber washers set up, but I can only hear it at idle in park or neutral in a quiet area, traffic noise at stop lights is enough to mask it.

Throw away your rear muffler and that'll drown out any pump noise

I ordered the 05 cummins lift pump, but its backordered. part # updated as well as price list $259/wholesale $179. If ETA is too far out I may just go with the walbro, it is specified safe for biodiesel.

The Cummins lift pump came in so I installed it yesterday. Thanks for all the help everyone involved in the R&D. Runs great, the primer has never felt this firm. Throttle response feels the same on the freeway but does feel a little better off idle. I dare to give it more than 1/8 throttle again without fear of air in fuel.

I want to install the lift pump next to the fuel tank.

Where about do i need to cut the fuel pipe and depending where i cut, do i need to connect fuel hosing to the exisiting hose or does the pump connect directly to the exisiting hose.

Thanks.

Thanks- That connection you have made with the existing fuel pipe and new hose to the fuel pump, what did you do there :?:
