I can't add much, other than that there was a KK owner on another site complaining of the exact same thing back in May. He was reporting getting a 58" front rail and a 50" rear rail - is that what you have?

Re-reading the post it looks like there was no resolution to the situation. The OP talked to Chrysler and a few dealerships and he was told that's how it's supposed to be, even though the front rail apparently overhangs to the point where it could be dangerous: if someone wasn't paying attention they could catch a corner of the rail in the head.

No doubt something else that will be fixed in a future model.

Yeah I remember that post on jeepforum.com a while back. Apparently that's how they're all being shipped or something. I dunno, personally I'd send it back and pick up a roof rack if that would be an option for you. (I don't know if you're interested in the idea of a roof rack or not... just throwing it out there.)

That is why I went and had ordered Yakima bars and mounts from http://www.orsracksdirect.com/.

I would always vote for Yakima or Thule. Better than OEM, imo.

i was going to originallly go with the yakima or thule, but i liked the width of the factory bar for the reason that it stops the kayak rack from twisting and will help to keep it in place more securly when loaded and wont have to worry bout much. i called the parts guy at jeep service who sold them to me he is going to check on the pair he ordered for stock to see if its the same thing. its annoying but ill live worse comes to worse if i get that annoyed its nothing that a mitre box cant fix. :D
