When I first start everything seems normal.
After I drive a little ways and come to a stop I get a metal howling from under the center of the vehicle(tranny area I believe, hard to pin point).
It does it during idling; above idle RPM it seems to disappear.
It does it in Park, Nuetral, reverse, and Drive.
It's like 2 metal plates spinning against each other, and when I shut down the engine they grind to a halt till the very end.
It drives fine. The tranny oil looks and smells good. It is about 1/2" above max on the dip stick, but has been that way for a year.

I'm not experirnced enough to know what this is yet, but thought its very likely someone here does.

Thanks for any input.

I am no expert, but I had a very similar problem although I described it as loose bolts rattling around in a coffee can right below my feet. It was driving me nuts!

When I dropped the engine skid to have a look, I found very quickly that it was the nut and bolt on the front differential bracket was very loose. Once I tightened the bolt, the noise went away.

Not many cats around. I had Aamco put in my Suncoast TC about 25000 miles ago. If it has to do with those parts or install it sounds like this thing is about to rape me for a lot more money. What can I do to pinpoint the problem?

Check that they did not leave a bolt or several loose when hooking the TCC to the flywheel - you'll need to disconnect the battery cables, then remove the starter to access the rubber-plugged install port, have someone rotate the flywheel while you inspect with a mirror - don't stick your finger(s) in there, as the rotating flywheel bolt-heads will shear your fingertip(s) off - 360* rotation will expose all the bolts

Ok I think I can do that.

What is the torque for these?
Are they the Pressure Plate bolts or the Flywheel bolts?

Any other items or tricks I should know? Bolt tightening sequence or etc...

Under CLUTCH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS the Service Manual shows 2.5L Diesel- assume its a misprint.

The bolts that secure the torque convertor to the flywheel flexplate - they're located about an inch and a half inside ring-gear diameter - suggested torque is 270inlbs, or 22.5ftlbs
