Don't like the black smoke at acceleration

love your forum, 2006 stock CRD 60,000 miles with K&N air cleaner, great fuel mileage, doesn't use oil, but has always smoked when you step on it.
Our dealer worked thru all the EGR and glow plug stuff and we have no fault codes.
If the EGR valve is pluged up, as I have seen mentioned would this cause over fueling at heavy throttle?
What senses the boost build up and controls the fuel delivery to limit the smoking under acceleration?
Does anybody out there have any experience with this type of symptom?

Mine smoked on hard acelleration until I did the orm, lift pump helped also..

Why does the engione need a after market lift pump, does it have a fuel supply problem?

my bro had this problem... if you drive it easy soot builds up then blows out on a hard acceleration.... you have to run it hard for a bit and that will stop...

the lift pump vets rid of some of the vaccum leaks that have appeared in some of our fuel systems... i've personally seen it in 4 CRD's, contrary to what some might say

Cold fuel pumped into the engine.
Too bad I don't get hardly any more smoke.
Not sure what happened, but it sure runs good, go figure.

I don't get a lot of smoke either. Can only see it at night in the headlights of the cars following me.

I haven't left visible trails when I stomp on it since this thing was new.

Yup ORM & Lift Pump fixed it. More oxygen=less smoke. Proper fuel delivery to CP3 keeps it happy along with the sensors and the ECM=better running.

Simple solution

Best solution is to get a skoda fabia 1.9tdi

I really liked to blow smoke, it gave me a feeling of "POOOOWEEEEEER".

The skoda just accelerates and doesn't blow smoke enough to notice it.

Does the CRD come with a particulate filter installed, if not you could add one.

You can't just bolt one on like a muffler, you will need piezoelectric injectors or an injector to spray some extra fuel into it when it clogs up to burn off the particulates along with an array of other controls, basically the Blue Tech system. I too used to think that a long trip was required to "unplug" the cat but when I reamed mine own cat out it had no signs of soot and I noticed that there is no way that soot could get trapped in the large honeycomb passages, so I came to the conclusion that a long hot run is not really needed. Shoot an IR thermometer at it after a five minute drive. You will see temps that allow no soot buildup.

Getting a stretch where you can go for even 5 min in city traffic with out slowing down can be a challenge. Most of my driving is on the tollway so I don't have a problem. Going with ORM and a Lift Pump also helps a lot and I never see the soot or even the gray haze any more.

I wonder how much of the perceived smoke problem could be related to oil in the intercooler or CAC tubes? If even a couple of large drops of oil get sucked into the engine, it could produce visible smoke. The only time when I can get any "puff" of smoke is after extended easy driving. It is either the oil from the CCV or soot being blown out of my exhaust.

Unlike fuel, engine oil has more additives. These additives that are solids will precipitate out when the oil is fried by the Exhaust gas from the EGR and pile up in the manifold. In a waste oil furnace the additive solids form klinkers and can mess up the area next to the nozzle.

Actions to prevent these problems that I have taken:
1) ORM then SEGR when it warms up a little.
2) TDI guy type Provent.
3) Low Ash Oil
