I am looking at buying a cheap Ford Explorer 4x4 (1993) and was wondering if anyone knows whether this has a IFS or Solid Front Axle? I am looking around the web and having a hard time finding anything.

I was reading that it is a Ford Twin Traction Beam. Looking at some photos, it does not appear to have CV shafts. Is the Ford TTB different from an IFS. Does it still have CV Shafts?

For a '93 exploder you will get the TTB front end,not IFS but not a SFA either, best of both worlds so to speak. The worst thing Ford ever did was ditch the TTB and go to IFS.

oh yeah...duh.....not sure how I forgot that, :?
I was actually considering how to use one for a sfa swap. I ran into a guy in Big Bear wheeling one and based on what he told me about it, it sounded like he had it built pretty strong. Claimed it was as strong as a built D44 setup.

They can be,most run the 8.8 setup, basically a 8.8 in the front end.The only drawback is that dang caster problem they have.

i actually had a 91 explorer lifted on 33's with the ttb front. the ttb front end is a monster. and i still to this day regret ever getting rid of the truck. i will tell you that if you get the 4.0 v6 your going to have to replace the rear main seal. they are known for going out on them, and are expensive to replace unless you plan on doing it yourself. i had mine replaced and the cheapest place in town that i actually trusted to do the work was right at 980ish (just shy of a grand). the truck is a monster off road though and i am actually looking at getting another just to build for off road use only.
