ThunderbirdJunkie thinks he is up for it.

On the way to Michigan (Zeeland/Allendale/Holland area) middle of next month anyway to hang out with the people that used to be a bad influence on him. Or vice versa, not sure.

Live right off I-196 in Holland. Honk if you see a Shale Green KJ with a LOST sticker on the back liftgate.

hmmm 6.5hr drive to get there... camping available?

i'm not too interested in hardcore wheeling for its own sake, so if this wont be terrible on the vehicle and theres good stuff to see and do, i'd be up for it! always fun to meet up with some people anyway.

camping is available at several spots around there
be fun just to play in the sand , something different
lots of things to see and do in that area, found some neat little towns scattered up the coast last fall that "cater to tourist types"

I will go ahead and throw some dates out soon here to start the planning process, like I have found out all holiday weekends are packed( even regular weekends are for that matter)

get enough from Ohio and we can caravan up and show those people from the other side of the border what real Liberty's look like

Yes, Callaway you do need an ORV sticker in Michigan ,
Here is the Michigan DNR website for Silver Lake, It has all the rules and how the voucher system works. You can pick up for two vehicles for both days on a weekend but you need name and license plate #'s. everyone can check it out
http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-15 ... --,00.html
Hope we can get something together for everyone to come and meet and have some fun

Sounds like fun. I will try to make it.

During the week is best, less traffic on the dunes. I went on a week end and it was so crowded. I almost ended up with a red racing stripe down the side of my KJ. I was going up a hill and a red Wrangler was coming up the other side. We past by each other real close along the drivers side.

well that sort of ...blows  so you may go up and not get on the dunes anyways :?

Very unlikely, Possibly only on Holiday weekends if you aren't there on Friday to wait in line. There are ways to get multiple vehicles in because you are allowed to tow in 1 or 2 with 1 voucher if need be. Its really not as bad as people make it out to be. The Vouchers are only used on the Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. And you don't need a voucher past 7PM, so that at least guarantees some fun as the dunes close at 10PM during the Summer. You get Vouchers for a 2 hour Segment, you can reenter anytime after its stamped. You can get mulitple vouchers at the Booth across the street from the entrance (there are signs everywhere) For the Vouchers you need the Name and the Lic Plate Number.

Just don't go on a Holiday weekend and you'll be fine, the Economy sucks in michigan right now. It was practically a wasteland the last time i went.

As for the weather, if you want to treat it as a beach July and August are best, The water is still quite chilly in June.

For those that have never been there you need the Following:

1. A flag - available at several places around town, David allen Racing has brackets and flags, ~$25 for the Flag, then another 10-20 to get a bracket to mount it. The flags mount in a 1/2" hole if you want to make a bracket before you get there. Mount on front of Vehicle.
2. Michigan ORV sticker $16.25 available at the gate
3. State Park Pass - you can buy Daily or Yearly, different rates for residents/nonresidents, i think its less than $10 for a daily non resident
4. A tire pressure gauge that actually reads low PSI, you'll need to air down anywhere between 0-15 psi to have any fun (depending on tire size/vehicle)
5. Air down before you get on the dunes so you aren't stuck on the entrance ramp.

Other notes, follow the directional signs so you don't hit anyone on the hills, don't go too fast over the crests of hills as you can have a bad time, if you get stuck don't stand around just dig with your hands if you can't find anyone to pull you, stay out of the water holes until you know how deep they are.

You don't need skid plates, its very soft sand. The sand is as hard on your car as you want it to be. Drive like an idiot and you'll break, drive normal and you'll have fun.

Hey, nobody said there would be Canadian's there.

seriously, I want to do this. someone mentioned during the week so I will just say Sunday & Monday would be too much to ask for, so if I had to, I would drive up on a Saturday evening and wheel on Sunday with Monday being my return home day. I'll watch this topic for legit updates.

Hey that looks like fun as well, wonder what he is charging for setting this up? I am looking at doing more Expedition style runs and this fits in.
Thanks Daryl
I will try and remember to call him!

My grandpa lives in Hart. I think Silverlake is the place we used to take a couple of rail buggies that he built. I always had a blast.

Might have to see if I could stay at his place and take one of the buggies out!
