Been using SEGR for about 6 months/8K miles. EGR in vehicle has about 20K total miles on it. Installed bypass plug in SEGR before taking Jeep to dealer for waranty work. It now appears that the EGR valve may no longer have full range of motion because of being "disabled" for 8K miles and getting "coked up".

Anyone want to suggest a protocol to "enable" the EGR valve on some sort of schedule to maintain normal functionality when needed, or does using SEGR basically mean that the EGR valve will soon be effectively ruined? (As long as it is under waranty, I guess I can have them replace The EGR valve each time it goes in.)

Thanks,

DOC

Wow, I should try installing a bypass plug. I've got 12k on mine since installing SEGR...

Thanks GM! That's along the lines of what I was thinking; brief periodic use to try to keep it from "sticking" when you "want" it to work "properly".

A little more history: '05 CRD was purchased used in Dec '06 with 18K on it. EGR was replaced under waranty at about 25K. (Unclear if it was really needed. They replaced a bunch of components and the CEL was not even on.)

SEGR installed at about 40K. CEL went on at about 48K with current codes of P0299 and P1250 and several additional "stored" codes includng P0101. Just brought it in.

Diesel tech reported an additional code that had not been there the day before having to do with the EGR "sticking".

I can only assume that this additional code was triggered after I installed the SEGR "bypass" plug because I did not rescan after putting in the plug.

BTW, I had been told that "Fuse 24" is the one to remove to "hide" the presence of a Cummins lift pump. It also looks that way from the fuse box "legend" in the owner's manual.

However, there was no fuse in slot 24. It turns out that "Fuse 17" (10 amp on mine) which I believe is labeled "fuel prime" on the lid of the PDC (under hood fuse box) is the one to pull to cut power to the harness under the rear seat that is tapped into to provide power to the in-tank pump. However, in the owner's manual F17 is listed as "open" under both gas and diesel, so it seems unlikely to raise any attention from a dealer tech if there is simply no fuse in that slot.

Will post as to outcome with dealer tech.

Thanks,

DOC
