That's old school Audi! In the last 5 years Audi and Volkswagen are leaders in quality-fit and finish. The 2.0 turbo gas and the TDI diesel are outstanding engines.

CNBC interviewed the CEO of Borg Warner today, a parts supplier for many automakers. They also specialize in parts for hybrid vehicles. The CEO went on to say that Audi and Volkswagen are leading the world in developing and making the most of small turbocharged gas and diesel engines. I missed the introduction of this CEO, at first I thought he was the head guy for Audi-Volkswagen the way he was going on about the company. At the end of the interview he was introduced as the CEO of Borg Warner.

I have over 10k in repairs that says otherwise.

Drive it harder. Audi's are built to be rung out.

I don't understand how I could drive it harder when the transmission fails with daily use.

That and when your vehicle doesn't start its hard to ring it out.

Sam, sorry to hear of your Audi experience.

My first speeding ticket was in an Audi when I was 15, way back in 1987 (driving with another licensed drive in the car thankfully!).

My Dad owned a 5000, a 100, a 200, and an A6. My brother had a 5000 and a 90. I've owned an A4, and a VW Corrado.

I bet them all as hard as I could beat them, and never had a single issue out of any of them. Even the little 5 cylinder 5000 with a whopping 130hp would run 130mph all day long (if you had the patience to allow it to get there....geared very high).

The only problem with Audi is the darn maintenance. Parts are expensive, and maintenance is chop an arm off expensive. Audi tried to remedy this with the "Audi Advantage" where you can get the maintenance included with the car.

If I weren't the head of a single income family trying to make ends meet, you can bet I'd have another VW/Audi product. I love 'em.

Well, in all fairness, my Dad did have two issues with his Audis.

One had a bad habit of cutting off, for no reason. Going down the road and it was like someone turned the key off. If you put it in neutral and turned the key, it'd crank right back up. Took several trips to the dealer before Audi bought it back and he got a new one. The problem was happening since day one, the car was less than two weeks old. That was around the time the Audi V8 came out, and my Dad got that as a loaner car for his trouble. He drove it for two weeks before they got him a new car. THAT was a sweet car. I knew when it hit 120mph by the end of the entrance ramp to the interstate that I needed to own one of those cars. Never did, sadly.

The other issue he had was a vibration between the handbrake lever and the center console. Dad took it to the dealer and they adjusted the hand brake lever, but the noise returned. He finally stuck a book of matches between the two and never worried about it again.

Other than the one lemon he had, which was bought back without him even asking. They just told my Dad, "We don't know what's wrong with it" and they gave him a new car, no questions asked and no additional money. Just the headache of taking it to the dealer a few times and filling out some paperwork.

I'd have to agree with Sir Sam,Audi's are junk.The 2.7's always have valve cover leaks,at least there easy to change.

I've had a 4000s and a 5000D Both of them were junk but the 4000 with the VW 1.8L engine was impossible to kill. One of my fondest memories is of my wedding day and my wife pushing the the car in her wedding dress while I popped the clutch to start the 4000 with a broken starter. Still, for $100 I got my money's worth of driving pleasure.

You have no idea how many times I have had to get out and push.

Kinda embarrassing when you stop to get gas and your vehicle just decides not to start. Worse is when it happens in a bad part of town.

Difference is we know more about the Jeep than the Audi - perhaps that's the problem

Living in Germany for the past 13 years I have had a chance to abuse quite a vew rental cars. Opel was the only TDi that did not hold up, 12 hours and the engine gave out with 3300 kms on the clock. The last W if you go to the Ring, use black duct tape on the tags to keep anyone form taking photos and don't for get the 2 in the windshield.

at least with audi or vw tdi you can get a manual transmission which for some reason jeep cannot put on a crd in the USA
