I've been thinking about taking my weight balancer off, but I keep thinking it’s there for a good reason. However, I haven’t heard anyone, thus far, who has noticed any ill-effect with it off. For those of you who are confused about what I’m talking about, I have posted a photo by long_tall_texan of your Jeep's testicles. It would be the bottom part in the photo.

Take a peak under your Jeep, and you will see them dangling.

They are vibration dampeners. Same thing with the Ring around the rear DS that is supported by rubber(just like the testicles on the kj are). A large mass like that will absorb vibration.

Ring around the driveshaft? Do you have any pictures? And do you still have your testicles....err, vibration dampeners?

Here you can see the ring around the DS, nice painted rear axle, testicles, etc. :)

Obviously, from the initial pic posted, mine are now gone. Will report back if I notice any extra vibrations.

Wow, I Hit a pretty big chunk of ice... About bucket sized, and it thumped fairly hard underneath, and now I have excess Vibration... Is it possible that I damaged one of those Dampeners? I got under there quick, and the major stuff like tranny pan, Axle and everything are not damaged, I ust didn't know to look at those... When it warms back up to 10F, I'll go out and have a loot.

Both of my KJs were neutered long ago and never noticed any changes.

Still have the weights but haven't had a rear swaybar in 100K miles or so.I believe the u-joints are going and it's time to rotate the MT/Rs again so we'll take a looksee underneath today.Need to check a few things 'cause it seem to be a little loose on the rear end around corners.

Check out the Drive shaft(that long rusty thing in my pic) really good. Other than that, as long as you have the stock skids, not sure what else it could be.

Bent rim if the tire hit it hard??

Jeepster - I've very surprised that you haven't painted and polished the driveshaft.
it just seems to stand out as a concern

Yeah... I thought maybe a bent rim, I do have the steelies. I've since had my tires changed and balanced, so I assumed that the guys at the tire shop would have noticed... But they did seem to be in a major hurry to get me out of there. To the point of being rude. I think it was lunch time.

The vibration did get better after the tire change, though it didn't go away completely. I'll have to take it to another tire place and have them check my rims out.

At first I thought you were talking about the big "V".

What is the advantage of taking those off other than reducing weight? Does it really make a difference in anything?

ok, so if no one hasn't noticed anything different, why take it off? More clearance?
