Just wondering and need advice from the experts. I'm getting a Rusty's BB a few days after I arrive in AZ on the 10th. Would like to do a run before the lift to make comparisons. Would this be ok for a stock Libby on 30" tires and limited slips front/rear??? I have all the driving skills needed, but unfamiliar with the KJ offroad as I've been driving the XJ in my sig now for 6+ years.

How much armor do you have?
stock you only have ~6" of clearance.

(I don't know your trail at all - but if it's not paved you're going to be dragging something)

Hey, are people completely unaware of the fact the KJ was the last "new" Jeep product that was required to traverse the Rubicon completely stock??? I'm sure they tool all the bypasses on the trail and stacked like crazy through bad sections they couldn't, but it did make it!!! All I have is the skidplates that came stock.

I ran the Back Way to Crown King this past June in a stock height KJ. Full skids highly recommended. I had to take a strap twice and scrapped bottom several other times.

Not to mention lots of draaaaggggggiiiiiinnnnnnggggggg. I've been on most of the Rubicon in stock TJ & KJ Rubicons, their stock KJ must have been mangled terribly afterwards. The part from Loon Lake to the camp grounds (where all the Sluices are) is very difficult.

As far as CK, yes, if the road hasn't been too torn up from monsoon. I believe some in the group have taken a stock height KJ up it. I would recomeend skid protection as there are a couple little rocks that poke up here and there. And better than stock goodyear tires will be benificial.

hope that helps,
mike

Specifically to the CRD question I know Casey ran his up that trail and if I remember the tale correctly he had about *this* much space between his oil filter and the ground on a couple of obstacles but good spotting got him thru.

I'm running 235/75-16 Firestone a/t's now, so at least that helps. I remember the 1st time I ran that trail, met an Xterra group up top who finished in front of me and a guy in a 2wd made it up and only had to be strapped only once and that was up the "ledge", which use to be the hardest section, but is next to nothing now. That trail changes so often it's amazing!

Wow thanks. I got 245/70/16's (Wrangler Silent Armour) and was thinking about giving it a run. Might get some skid plates and rock sliders first, just in case

The trail is always changing... what was doable one time may not be doable the next time. Also, I may be mistaken, but doesn't an Exterra have more ground clearance than a KJ?

I'm about 99% sure they do. A friend of mine has an Exterra and we've gone places that I did later in my KJ and I scraped a couple times. He does have "bigger" tires though.

Just placed an order for Rusty's 2.5" BB (yeh, don't tell me I allready know about the OTT kits) and a set of Super Skink Sliders. I really wanted the Frankenlift, and may regret the Rusty lift. But time and money didn't really permit it this time and really do need a "stop gap/temporary" solution. When I get back home, I'll take off the front spacer, and get Rancho front struts with OME coils and simply keep the rear spacer and stock coils.

I have a thread started on VJC for a wrench party when I get out there. I'm really limited to what tolls I can bring, so any help, and loaner tools would be greatly appreciated. All drinks would be provided along with supper on my dime (well, depending on how many offer help and actually do some work........LOL!!!)
