Simply put, when you install new gears you also have to install new bearings, seals etc. The crush sleeves you see mentioned crushes down sort of when you install the gears and can only be used one time

lot more to it than that but its like rebuilding an engine, you want new bearing seals etc for it to run right

Is this something that would be needed to do it on my own or for a shop to do it also?

LOL Nope! I want a shop to do it. I was just thinking of getting the front now while I can because I heard that they are going to discontinue it. Then Getting the rear and saving up for the install.

Good idea, buy the fronts now with everything for the install and hide them in the closet until you get the rears

yeah I would definitely buy the front if you really want to regear bc you never know if you will be able to get them

So I should get the kit even though I'm going to have a shop do the install? And if I called the trailquest should I just say I need the 4.10 gears for the front on a liberty and the rebuild kit and they will know what Iam talking about?

more than likely but if you go back a page the p/n are listed for all of the rebuild parts, Diesel listed them and I re-listed them with their name and price by its self, he said he paid $120 for the rebuild and I think the gears have gone back up to $256 or something, but yeah definitely buy gears and rebuild

I would go ahead and get everything you need for the install since they ahve it available now, if you wait till later its a guessing game. If a shop gets the install kit for you it will be a lot more with their markup

Yes they are a very knowledgeable family, just call and tell them and they will fix you right up!

A master overhaul kit includes all the parts necessary to properly rebuild your differential. If you’re like me, and have no experience with regearing, then it’s easier to buy the entire overhaul kit and let someone build it for you. If you already have the experience, then you will already know (by assessing the job) what parts will need replaced and what parts are reusable.

So this will run me around just under 400 for the front. Then the rear is needed. How much is the rear going to cost me aprox?

Rear 4:10 Motive Gears $178
Rebuild Kit $70
Total $248

If you ever plan on lockers, then this would be a great time to install them as well and save some installation money down the road. That’s my excuse.

I agree, but trying to convince the wife that I’m spending $2,500 for lockers to save a few hundred dollars isn’t as easy as you think. I married a smart one……………

She already has told me what I owe her…………… Unfortunately, we have no plans to install the gears within the next 5 months. This is our last semester of grad school, so we’re pretty much strapped for time. I still have to order the front and rear lockers, onboard compressor, and the hoses before I can install the gears. We also have several trips planned during the summer months (including the Lost Safari). 8) At this rate, it will be the middle to end of the summer before everything gets installed. Plus, we’ll have to work around Josh’s schedule at www.crawlertech4x4.com for the install of gears and lockers. But I have no complaints, at least I know that I’m doing it right the first time! :D
