I did. This past Friday...2 punk kids around 14-16 in age thought it would be fun to break into someones home. My wife and I were the...lucky ones. They broke and climbed in the laundry room window. Then walked away with a few thousand dollars worth of stuff. Luckily they didn't hurt my dog, I was very afraid of that, especially since I had, yes had a gun in the house. They got the gun now. Even with that item being taken I think we are very lucky.

Another woman at my Wife's school had her house broken into the same day and they took 3 firearms and totally trashed their house. Broke nearly every piece of glass inside and spray painted. I think one of the many kickers in her story, is that her alarm company had a armed guard in the neighborhood and the crooks still got away. He was on site in 5 minutes!

It is sad that people are stooping to these levels. I understand the economy is tough and people need money to live but wow.

How many of you have had similar situations? What did you do when you got there? I charged the house with my mag light, lol and yelled that if they were in there I was gonna kill them, lol. Not smart looking back but I was beyond pissed off.

Someone kicked my door down while I was at work once and stole my laundry detergent... yes... the only thing missing was my laundry detergent. Go figure

It's a good thing they weren't still there though... I used to have to wear a sidearm at work and theat's where I had just come from

Xodius, Sorry to hear that kinda crap happen to you. I still can't understand how some people can live with themselves.

Were they caught?

Nope they are not caught yet. The police did get prints and DNA, they cut themselves on the window and left several small...pools...drops perhaps of blood. None on the carpet thank God. It is amazing that they can do that and be fine with themselves.

Laundry Detergent...that is ....odd....glad they didn't get anything else. This weekend is one of the gun shows here, so I am headed there to check out the newer springfield XDM's and perhaps another Walther for the wife.

I have to ask - So how do you know their ages? The crime lab tell you from the DNA / fingerprints?

And about that gun, was it locked up? Are you in trouble because it's out in the wild now?

Sorry to hear this. And to answer your question - I've never had that experience.

Your dog did not protect the home? Do you have a Chihuahua? I would be concerned about that gun in the hands of criminals and possibly coming back for more.

Make sure they have all the info on that gun so it doesn't come back to bite you. And how do you know the ages, even approximate? Sorry to hear this happened. At least you and your better half weren't hurt or your pup.

It sucks. Our house was broken into 3 Christmas ago. Stole all the kids presents along with TV's, computers, etc. Xmas presents sucked the most. look into your kids eyes and try to explain to them. Bless some of the guys from my local lodge who saved the day for them at least.

The ages are from a neighbor down the street. She saw 2 kids between the ages of 14-16 roughly that were acting "strange". They didn't call the police because...well, let's face it most kids today are strange, lol. As for the gun, it was not locked up. I had it easily accessable for home defense and they found it. It was not in plain view or anything like that, just not "locked" up. The police have all the info on it and all is good. It happens, I know I will never see that firearm again though. :( They did not get any keys or anything like that. So the only way they are coming in is through a window.

My dog, she is a border collie and is bottom line a total lover. I kind of wish she did more but on the other hand if she did they probably would have hurt or shot her and that would just make me hunt them down, literally.

Sunday is the gun show and I already made some calls to a few dealers here in town that I know and have shot with before. So I will have a few new toys and some extra precautions in place for them.

Maybe the thieves will try and sell the gun at the show?

Not sure how well that would work out for them. I guess anything is possible though. I will keep my eyes open for sales like that.

Well, the gun show sucked. lol. We did buy 2 thousand rounds of ammo though. You can never have enough ammo. :)
Then we went to the gun store and bought 2 Springfield XDM 9mms. Very nice gun. This Saturday, weather permitting, we are going out shooting. Always a good time. Our home is once again armed and a little pissy, lol.

Next purchase...AR15 :)

I've had my house broken in to. It was back on presidents day in '03. Guy kicked through a glass sliding door, grabbed a small tv in our kitchen, put it in his car and then (studpidly) came back in where me and my dad were waiting for him. We gave him a good licking. We live in DC so we basically aren't allowed to own guns, so insted we keep broken hockey sticks which are basically just clubs with splinters of graphite on them. he got a couple of those in his face. he wasn't armed and didn't even speak english. took him and we pinned him down for about 5 minutes till the cop showed up with a big gulp and some sour patch kids. Cop started laughing when we told him we beat the guy with hockey sticks. He said "Wow if ur a hockey player why didn't you just fight him!" You gotta love DC cops...

Hate to say but the most I have been ripped off, all came while living in Vegas. 2 motor cycles, a bicycle and the car was broke into & dash ripped apart for the stereo. Each of these was all different locations while living there in the 80's

I think the most bizarre one was my 74 Yamaha DT400, I bought it in a basket and put it together the full cheap route for second transportation, bungied the tank on, torn seat, missing parts and mirrors from Wal-Mart for a bicycle, even had a squeeze horn! Obvious I was broke back then. I cable locked it to a railroad tie in the apartment complex and they sawed through the cable in the night. Never got it back. I thought to myself- who the heck would have wanted that sorry old motorcycle?

I had my house broken it to last Oct.
They took alot. Alot of my non replaceable items, money and stuff like that.

I had a collection of baseball cards. A few rare ones too. The worst they took was my Ty Cobbs card that was in a locked strong box that you could not see though. It had other cards in there too like my micky mantle rookie sighned card and my 1972-2008 NY Yankee complete sets.

When I was doing HVAC I would get tips every day so I would come home and stuff it all into my son's piggy bank (PORK BORREL) and it was no more then 2 weeks before we were broken in to, I counted the money and it was close to 1G

My guitars and a couple of my RARE basses were taken too.
My wife lost ALOT of here jewles.

SORRY ABOUT MY SPELLING. I am TIRED

Wow, I am sorry to hear about all of our losses. It just makes me think more and more how people in general suck. Present company excluded of course.

Sadly, the woman that my wife works with had a miscarriage. The doctors belief it was stress form the break in. This happened shortly after the break in, I just heard about it the other day or so. On a positive side...if there really can be here, she has 3 kids already and this one was not "planned" which does not make it good or anything like that but is...perhaps a bit easier...somehow.

We put around 140 rounds through each of the XDMs and they are SWEEEEEET! We are planning on going for our CCW's here in the next month or two. Apparently, Utah is trying to pass some legislation that will limit who can teach the class for them. We live in Nevada but we are planning on getting both the NV and Utah CCW, perhaps even Florida to knock out most the other states :)

If you are in the market for a handgun, my wife and I both highly recommend the Springfield XDM, any caliber, they are all great.

I also want to thank you all for your words of encouragement and hope that no one else will have to go through this type of experience.

Oh and as for the beating of the guy with the hockey sticks, that is priceless!

I think if you get the NV and UT CCWs then you are good for like 30+ states or something.
