So I finally found a deal here in Canada (thanks ICarl) who deals skid row plates. So I am going shopping
So my question is what is the major advantage over Mopar Plates & Skid row plates?
I already have a Mopar Fuel Tank Plate. Is there an advantage to the Skid Row Fuel Tank plate? (Weight, Strength, etc.)

skid row skids are stronger than the mopar ones, but im NOT saying the mopar ones arent good! they are very nice. but the mopar ones arent bad for lighter to medium duty. it all depends on how onften your going to be smashing down on the skids on rocks or tree stumps. the skid row skids are a lot more expensive than the mopars, but if i had the money, id get the skid row ones! but my full mopar set has done me just fine! and i do use them a lot

so if i ever mangle a stock mopar one, ill upgrade to a skid row, but i havent yet! so im happy with the mopar ones

I've come down hard on my mopar skids several times and haven't had any issues with them. I did beef up the trans skid though just to be sure...

would you rather get kicked square in the nuts with seran rap or a metal cup as protection?

The Skid Row skids are thicker and the transmission skid is tighter/higher than the Mopar transmission skid. I have the Mopar skids and I am happy with them.

I will eventually upgrade to the Skid Row skids, but after I have upgraded the suspension, and other parts, to the point where I will need the extra protection. As my Jeep is now, I cannot get into places where I will do a whole lot of damage to the Mopar skids.

Skid row plates offer more protection and better ground clearance than oem. But, If you have the oem front skid plate that is a good strong skid. Also, the oem gas tank skid is good. I'm not a big fan of the oem tranny skid and the skid row tranny skid offers far more protection and is worth buying over oem. There are no oem skids designed for your year of kj offered by mopar anymore. You have to buy a 2005+ skid plate and make them fit (drilling holes, etc.). So if you want ease of installation and don't mind the extra expense go with the skid row for at least the tranny and tc. I have the oem but would like to upgrade to a skid row tranny skid plate because it protects the drive shaft better.

The Mopar skids will work fine for me being in Washington. More tree stumps and look rocks here. However, when I go back to Colorado or if I ever go to Moab then Skid Row 100%

I have an 02 model with only the front skid. I can get the later model (05+) transmission and transfercase skids very cheap. Can I modify them easily, drill some holes, etc. to get them to fit my 02 model?

Yep, that's what I did. I believe I had to drill 2 holes in the tranny crossmember for the transfer case skid plate, and one extra for the tranny skid. The gas tank skid Mopar makes still fits the 02 models like a glove. There's a thread somewhere on here that I read that gave me the warm and fuzzy so that I could buy them knowing that I wouldn't waste my money. It B.S. that Mopar discontinued the plates for our year model and left us fending for ourselves. Not everybody can drop a grand on skids, but we still want to play around offroad. Oh and I had to bash a 6 inch long area on the tranny skid so it would clear the exhaust.

This is the link. It explains how some other people made the Mopar skids work. It even has pics.

This past summer while getting ready for deer season, I had the chance to test my skids. Mopar skids.

We were going through a freshly cut and plowed pine forest. Or what was a pine forest. It was mostly deep furroughs and new trees and old stumps.

Well, after going up and down plenty of these furroughs, we went up one and did not come down. We had landed right on the biggest stump in the place. Probably a cypress. The Renegade was about balanced perfectly. We could not get traction at any of the wheels. DId I say these are Mopar skids?

Anyway, after about 1 beer each for each tire, we had managed to jack the spruced up Liberty and put logs under each wheel and drove off.

Back home I noticed a vibration. Figured I had busted some mounts and took it to the deakership. I had bent the plate slam up against the transmission housing. They played hell getting it down I had also packed so much mud up in there the few years I had ownwed it the mechanic kept getting dirt in his eyes, clothes, hair, .....

I was charged $135 to reshape the skid plate and clean all the crap out. No problem since but I will bet it is slam packed with mud, clay, grass etc again right now.

The thing is I really abuse the bottom of this Renegade and this is the only problem I have, Well, the mechanic complains when he has to change oil. Comething about an acre of land under the Renegade.
