I was reading on Troyster's sights and came across the locker for the rear section. Few questions?
How do you know if you have an lsd in the rear or not? Apparently it determines how hard the install of the locker will be.

How does it handle in the snow/ice? I can usually get around very well in 2wd now.

Excluding the ARB air locker, which is the best for durability and longevity? I've heard that some aftermarket lockers clunk and clang. I don't won't that. For god sakes I have a JEEP not a gillopy.

LSD comes with the Off-Road Group package that you can have as a factory option I believe...if not, then how in the hell did I end up with one? :D 8)

My 03 came with a limited slip. Last year I swapped it out for Powertrax locker.

First, it's a pain to remove the side and spider gears of the LSD compared to an open diff, but it's just a matter of being patient and persistent.

Second, the Powertrax locker is better in the snow that the LSD. Not only does it provide more traction, but it produces significantly less rear end wiggle in 2wd. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania so I know about driving in the snow. In 4wd the locker does not wiggle the rear end.

Third, the Powertrax will occasionally clunk, and it will squeal a tire on dry pavement when making tight turns. I could care less about this given the improvement in off road ability. But don't buy and install a locker like Powertrax and expect it to behave like an open diff.

Crawl under the rear end and look at the rear axle. There should be a green tag identifying what rear differential you have. If you have the factory trac-loc it should say on the tag. Or else it will say open.

Powertrax No-Slip has been widely approved of by members of this club. It is affordable, $380 or so. The only guy that I can think of who didn't like it was The1JFerg (is that right ferg?). He had a different rear end than most of us so that could have been part of it. If you don't want noise get a limited slip or stay open. If you know how to drive with a locker you will avoid a lot of noises (let go of the throttle before turning). Tires will squeal around slow corners but that is physics. Sorry man. Get a limited slip if you're worried about noise and driveability. The ARB will not cause any noise when unlocked.
