Warning: marinespeak is present through this rant. If you don't understand what I am saying. You could try to ask someone. :)

Well folks,
I have tried to talk to the USCG, and the USAF. Neither of them have contacted me back. Not even a letter or note saying that they don't want my service. That was rude. They are now douche's in my eyes.
I have just sent an email to the IRR person about attending the Grey Belt training in KC, MO in March, in hopes that this will help my cutting score for the Marines, and possibly get me up to what it will take to get E-4.
I have been speaking with the wife, over the last few weeks, and we have come to the conclusion that I was happier when I was in. So was she. The reason that I got out, was because she was accepted into the USAF, as a cryptologic Linguist. A hell of a lot better than what I was doing, and I wanted to go to college.
So, Today, I have decided that I will be doing one of two things. Resorting to go talk to the Army recruiter, and see what my options are there, or just wait untill after I go to the grey belt training, and then talk to someone about re-enlisting into the Marines.

I don't why, but I really want to get a lat move. Not to say I hated being a cook, but I really would like to do something else. The job was easy enough, and having a 72 every other weekend was not too shabby, but I just don't really want to do that anymore. Yes, I love to cook. But I want to cook for me. Not other people. Making Chilimac for 700 Marines, was not that fun, and kind of disgusting after a while.

Okay, rant over. I am at work, and now I am getting pestered by the residents.

Trust me if you really want to get back in the service go back into the Marines, trust me I did 4 years in the Corps and after loosing my job I decided to go back in and due to my hearing the Marines no longer wanted me so I joined the Army.Let me tell you that was the biggest mistake I ever made.I would have not been so bad but after being used to the Marines the Army seams like a bunch of undisciplined little kids.I mean I've seen E-1's tell a fullbird to go f%&k themselfs and nothing was done to the private, they just don't care in the Army about discipline. It's rather sad.I should have waited a day and talked to the Navy recruiter.

Before you decide where to go you might want to decide what you want to do. Then ask here and other places for real life expieriences with the different services.

Besides these new uniforms the navy has it is not all that bad.

Yeah. I know all about the army. We went to MOS school with them.
This one time, at cooks school...[pun intended]
We were outside standing around, smoking, and two o-4's, and an O-3 walked by. We all saluted, one with the left hand, one with their foot on the wall, leaning against it, and me squating down. They saluted back, and kept going.
Not even a word...

Another thing is all of the things durring the day, like tattoo. I have no idea weather to keep walking, stand at attention, or what. Its too complicated. Plus, relearning the rank structure is going to suck. WTH is a Sgt 1st class?

An E-7.

In the Army all E-5's-E-7's are just called SGT's,same with E-8's unless they are wearing that diamond.Oh and a E-4 in the Army doesn't mean squat like it does in the Marines, your just a overpaid private till you put those 3 strips on.

Yeah...That question was kind of rhetorical, but cool.

I am using the Army as a last resort.

I really wanted the CG recruiter to call me back, but he never did. That seems to be the theme of this week. Not even my family is calling me back.

F'em. F'em all.

They made me mad earlier, and when they started this, I just told my wife I am done. They can find out that I'm going back some other time.

You try to be nice, but.... People make their own decisions.

Indeed it has. Months actually. That is mostly what inspired these actions.

Willy, and others.

Now that you mention it. What is is that you have all done, and in what branch? I don't imagine any of you were cooks in the Marines. KP duty back in the day does not count.

Well I was a 3521/3522/3524 in the Marines, basically a diesel mechanic, spent a year in Okinawa with 3/12 Marines and the rest of the time in Pendelton with MTM/GSM company stuck in Pogatraz  .In the Army I was a 63B,again a diesel mechanic, and did 3 years at Ft Lewis WA with the 14th/864th engineers then I did the rest at Ft Carson CO with 2BCT 2ID before I was med boarded.Did one tour in Iraq(OIF I) and one tour in Afganistan(OEF IV).Oh and I never got stuck with KP since I was a mechanic  .

Oh and if you know the term Pogatraz I feel sorry for you, just thinking about it brings back the memories of 24/7 bombs/grenades/155mm rounds going off  .

Skip the bs, drive to a meps and just walk straight in to the Corps' liason
They probably won't run you a contract as a result of it but it'll guarantee you a returned phone call and some hustle from whatever recruiting district you've been trying to reenlist with

I got shafted with some KP at lejeune for a bit, can't place what year that was, prob about late 98 I think I've since put it out of my memory.. never been so miserable in my life

shuffled with 3/2 and 1/8 26 and 24

was headed towards a 0369 track when I broke an axle (femur - drivers side) and a traction control link (tibia - passenger side) and finished trashing my ujoints (knees)

took about a year and a half and some prednizone treatments to get my legs healed up, synvisc injections for my knees have helped a little

When my bro needed to get his brain housing unit back on track he did a lat to the air wing. Gave him an opportunity for a 7 to 6ish job, would be atleast something to consider.

Just get ya life sorted out, no regrets.

Errr?

MC is not the one NOT calling me back. I was trying to get a hold of the coasties guy, and the AF. AF guy was not my local recruiter. He was the one that recruited my wife (short lived). I just know him through her, and I used to be on a car team with him. I know "car team". We went to Sac Raceway. They usually went to shows and whatnot.

I am a disabled vet right now, but I just miss the job security. I am headed nowhere fast right now. no raise in sight, and I am hating the life we got right now. She does too. And well, lets face it, if she ain't happy... noone is.

Just weighing my options. Besides, have you ever looked at how many CG recruiters there are not??? Other than this guy, the closest one is in Chicago.

Fax machines are awesome

Call the chicago guy, all paperwork can be faxed signed and faxed back then you can show up to any meps you want on assigned dates for the rest of the bs where you can make sure they didnt try to give you the big green weenie in your contract

yea, USCG doesn't spend much on recruitment, they don't really have a recruitment problem either

Check with your local Air National Guard. Once in, you can look for an AGR slot and then you have it made...unless it is phased out, which can happen in any branch at any time.

Also, don't rule out a branch of service just because of a recruiter. A recruiter is one person with their own agenda and often, don't really represent the branch all of the time.

I take it you are going to MOBCOM for your Grey Belt? Grey belt is easy. Is that a requirement for you? Or is that something you want to get to make your chances better? I spent a little time over there and did some training with the IRR guys and had to also monitor a bunch of 05-07's during there PFT / CFT.. it was quite entertaining

I was the Sr. Classifier at the MEPS in Indianapolis for the Navy from 02-06. I also have broken service, so I have been on both sides of the problem you are in. Unfortunately trying to get back into any branch except the Army is nigh impossible, THE Army is the only branch that has a reprieve from the Clinton era drawdown that is supposed to end next year. Out of the 80 some odd guys that tried to get back in under my watch, I was able to contract 3... shortest wait after signing was 8 months, longest 11 months, 27 days...

You said you are considered disabled? That may be a killer right there, not sure what the sep code was on your 214, but the doc at MEPS has to clear you still. Depending on the disability and if you are cleared, you may even have to repay any disabled pay you've received while out.

Lastly, the USCG, back when I was at MEPS only recruited OCT-JAN. After that, he had reached his FY quota. The Air Force was just as bad, always had a waiting list of some 50 kids waiting for an opening just to go to MEPS.

They probably won't run you a contract as a result of it but it'll guarantee you a returned phone call and some hustle from whatever recruiting district you've been trying to reenlist with.

You can't even walk in the door unless you have a reservation, or are escorted by staff.

IMO if you want back in the corps, you need to talk to your Recruiting Districts CR (Chief Recruiter), or the local Zone Supe. And then prepare for a long wait. Army should be quicker, a lot quicker. If you are considering the USCG, the Navy will be a lot easier to get back in, simply on numbers alone!

You also may want to consider the USPS. They have Uniforms, and I still think they carry too. :D

If you ant to see what you qualify for in the USCG/USN PM your ASVAB's.

I wouldn't bother trying for the AirForce/Air Guard, they kinda frown on prior service Marines big time. For some reason they think us Marines are brainwashed and to aggressive  .I tried the ArrForce and once I said prior service Marine and they said, litterly word for word, "Get the f&$k out of my office now"<<<I'm not joking.

Weird. My brother told me ( I think it was a couple years ago? ) - that the Navy was allowing Sailors to jump ship and join the Marines or the Army because they were desperate for grunts in the sandbox. I don't remember how much, but he said they were offering big money to sailors to would cross over. I can't remember if he was offered or not - being a Officer and a Aviator - or if that was only for enlisted??

As for the USPS - don''t do it. A friend has been a letter carrier for something like 14 years now and all he does his beotch about the idiots running that org.
