I figured since my front bumper is a tube style bumper,

Image

maybe I'd go with a tube style rear to kind of match it. This is the basic design I am going with.

Image
Image

It will have a swing away for my 33s and have a rear receiver hitch as well. I won't be doing the little reverse lights like in the pic and the spare will sit a little lower I think. The spare will also have a slight tilt forward to it as well, to follow the slight curve of the rear window and door. The only issue I am coming across is how to cut the rear fender where it meets the bumper. If someone wants to photoshop this rear bumper onto this pic of my KJ, then I'd much appreciate it. :D

What do you guys think?

61 views and only one "haha I'm very excited"? I was hoping for more input on changes to it, ideas for the rear fenders, and any general comments on it being a good or bad idea. KJ Kyle, sorry to have made you wait so long for it. I seriously hope it turns out as cool as I want it to. And good things come to those that wait right? :D

So are you going to take it to the wheel well like on that Grand or will you stop it at the flare?

Good stuff man!! Who built your front bumper? Does it have a winch? Or ability to have a winch? Looks good man.

Great idea, I would take it all the way around and then just cut the flare off at wherever it hits the tubing, then some sort of flat plate to cover the ends of the tubes and also to tie into the cut off flares, The one on the Grand looks like a good design to follow for ya!

also work a toe hole/step into the side to place your foot when getting things off the roof

I was going to the wheel well past the fender, but the little part of the fender that comes in and goes around the rear plastic bumper kinda has me wondering what it will look like with the rear bumper gone and nothing there to replace it. I figured if I go to the wheel well I can change the angle slightly to make more room for the bigger tires after the SFA swap though.

I bought the front bumper from quadratec, it is a Fabtech Prerunner TJ bumper and I welded new arms on it to fit and mounted it with 8 grade 8 bolts to the unibody. I then welded in a universal winch plate on it, but no winch yet, eventually. Thanks.

Tom, I am hoping it will stick out enough to get a foot hold on the top tube of it.

That would be sharp looking .If you were closer my buddy just got a 1.5 inch die Pro-bender air/hyd bender that would make short work of that.

Sweet. Thanks!

The rear bumper on the sides where it curves around towards the wheel well will also have a bar that connects from the bottom tube down to the mounting location to give side to side strength when I bash the rear corners on rocks. That way the sides of the rear end aren't just free hanging and able to be bent if I get a little sideways.

What about cutting it off around the spot here where JJKJ did... "]Image

Looks like the flare is cut near the level of the "beltline".

Thats basically what I was planning on doing on one version of the image. I believe thats the standard installation of the RL rear bumper and I think that would look consistent with what Inc has going on with his front flares.

Please believe me when I say I literally had 30 seconds to do this chop. Thought you'd like an idea of what it'd look like though.

Are you any good with body work? If so, fill it in with fiberglass and then bedline all the flares.

 I love it! Thanks a ton man. Even for 30 seconds that is great.

See how JJs bumper stops at the rear fender (goes under the fender) and the fender is cut at the lower fold of the rear bumper panel? My bumper will go straight across and past the rear fender and the fender will be cut above the bumper panel. So the bumper will not need to go under the rear fender like the RL one like JJ has. Does that make sense?

Off Topic at The Front End.
I work In a Light Truck warehouse and saw a Fabtech Pre Runner Bumper today and then I Eyed it against my Libby. Then I come home too see its been done. That Bumper looks sick for sure tho. Can you take some pics of how you are fastened too the Sub-Frame for me?
