Mr Laforge there are several CRDs on car-part.com for sale for $1700. You might look into those as well.

Hmm, Sam, thank you for the resource! I did not know about that site. I've got some calls to make tomorrow I think.

Geordi, I’m not sure what your circumstances are, but I would be interested in buying your KJ if you would rather sell the vehicle than go through the hassle of repairing it.

I appreciate the offer, I'm still considering and working things out. I'm not sure which direction I'm heading in yet.

On that note, would you be interested potentially in the engine that I currently have? It is looking more like the #1 cylinder will need to be rebuilt, but nobody I have spoken with yet seems capable of doing that. I really hate the idea of just scrapping this engine, there aren't that many of them around.

That brings up another question that I can't remember if it has been answered before:

Is there any way to put the VM engine into my 97 Grand Cherokee that currently has the V8 and 4-speed auto?
I'd like to keep the transmission b/c the gearing is perfect for the diesel, 70mph = 2100rpm and the engine doesn't rise above 2500 unless you stomp on it. With 200k on it however, I'm not confident about it's reliability.

...in another thread. I have done long block swaps before and the owners appreciated the savings. The only thing I would recommend if you get a used Long Block is pull the pan and check for bearing fragments before you put it in.

There are plenty of CRD engines, it’s just making sure that you find one that is in good condition. For this reason, I made sure that I selected an engine that was in good condition. I was fortunate that Todd went through the engine to make sure everything was as good as new. Like Warp said, you want to make sure the engine is in good shape. The 2.8L can go into a Cherokee, but it will require some modifications. Unless you can do the work yourself, some of these swaps into another make and model could cost you $6,000 - $12,000 dollars in labor, depending on who does the work. Most people have a hard enough time trying to figure out the wiring. Just to give you an idea, look at this thread.
http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... sc&start=0

As far as KJ CRD’s are concerned, I’ve personally seen 3 KJ CRD’s sell for under $9,500 mainly due to high mileage and of course the plethora of problems that CRD’s are capable of having. Most of the owners were tired of taking their CRD to the shop numerous times for various problems (transmission issues, Failed Turbo’s, and well, you’ve been on this board long enough to know all the problems).

As far as your damaged engine is concerned, it would cost me as much to repair your engine as it would to buy another used engine in workable condition. Assuming you would pull your engine, I would still have to pay to have it shipped and then pay someone to rebuild the engine, which would cost well over $1,500 dollars just for parts and labor, and that’s assuming there is no more damage than what you’ve already mentioned.

Yea, which is about what I had figured too. I'm not surprised at your response, but I had to offer, ya know?

I'm certainly interested in yours, if I get a complete engine. I'd rather do that than get a longblock that may or may not have other issues, as it seems that the art of engine rebuilding is dying, unless people do it themselves or at a custom shop.

Like I said, I'm still working it out, but I should be making a decision today or tomorrow, now that it is a business day again. I've already gotten some bids on shipping it, I just have to ask Todd how it is prepped for the trip. I'd also like to know if it can be completely assembled so it can run on a rack, for testing.

No matter what, I have to set up my CRD for towing, and my engine has to come out for anything, rebuild or otherwise. So I'm also getting the TC from Suncoast.

Any thoughts on replacing the TC, anything else on the transmission I should look at? I'm not sure if I have the new pump or not, but I HAVE had what I think are "drainback" issues. On some mornings, the Jeep wouldn't move for 10-15 seconds after startup even in gear. Is that a symptom of the old pump?

Replacing the pump solved this "wouldn't move for 10-15 seconds" problem for me

Well, I'm progressing with Mopar, so there is a possibility that they will be paying for this mess. Details to follow... Just as soon as I have them ironed out. 8)

I would start to cc VM on all detail, they have come to the assistance of crd owners in the past when Chrystler wouldn't make good.

After all VM did make the engine.

Actually, that isn't a bad idea. As to be expected, the idiots on the 800# aren't interested in doing anything. They are maintaining that I am the third owner and have no warranty, even when I have the hard copy of their own VIP reports that shows the powertrain warranty listed. Proof? Oh, they won't offer any, I'm supposed to get everything from the original selling dealer, when they also claim that every dealer has the same info.

It's a circle-jerk. The next step with them will involve lawyers, I don't see any other alternatives. They won't give me an email address to send the file to, so nobody can prove anything. They NOW are saying that the warranty transfer would never happen over the phone, yet that is exactly what did happen and what I was instructed to do by the dealer when I bought the car.

Mopar deserves to go out of business, without a PENNY of taxpayer money. I only feel bad for the dealers who are stuck selling their trash.

Would you happen to have a USA email contact for VM? I'm digging around on their website and I haven't found any email addresses yet, or even links to anything outside Italy.

edit/ I just found an automotive after-sales guy to contact via email, I hope he speaks english.

How do you expect VM to help, out of curiousity? THey are simply the engine supplier, Chrysler handles the warranty issues. For example, if under warranty, Chrysler would fix your Jeep, send the engine back, and then between the 2 parties to determine who ultimately pays for that engine.

I can help with some contact if you can tell me what you're trying to accomplish so I know who to talk to.

Did they sound like they were from the Southern Far East Asia and English was not their native language?

Please let us know.

VM in the past has helped others out. I believe they want to establish a good rep in the US market.

Everytime I've taken mine in the work order has all my extended warranty information printed on it. They even have a break down of how many miles a day I've driven

Does Mopar not allow a second transfer of the 7/70? We bought our '05 CRD with 18K on it and, as second owners, paid a $25 fee to our local dealer to transfer the 7/70 to us.

I never thought to ask if they permit a transfer to a third owner.

For vehicles qualifying for the 7/70 warranty, as I understand it the 7/70 is only transferable to the second owner. For the third and subsequent owners, the 7/70 is converted back into the 3/36.

So, if owner 2 sells the car at 40,000 miles to owner 3, owner 3 isn't eligible for warranty claim since it is past 3/36k mi.

If owner 2 sells the car at 33,000 miles to owner 3, owner 3 is eligible for another 3k miles of coverage.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 2006MY vehicles were only 3/36k unless optional coverage was purchased. In this case, regardless of # of owners, warranty stop after 36k mi.

This is the language as I understood it from the supplied documentation, please correct me if you find something different.
