how effective would long arms be on a frankenlifted KJ netting about 4" of lift? i have access to all the parts to make custom control arms for the rear, but would they even make a differance, if you keep the factory Y link with a drop bracket?

The stock arms are fine for the Frankenlift or JBA 4" or 6" lifts. They allow plenty of flex in the rear. I looked into this as well, but it is a waste of money IMO to go with long arms and keep the front IFS.

You would give up ground clearance w/ long arms on a short lift. Ride quality wouldn't be that much different either since the short arm vs long arm angle wouldn't be that much different. The reason to run long arms on a tall lift is to decrease the angle the arms sit at to keep them closer to horizontal. The steeper the angle on the arms, the harsher the ride.

No not really
not worth the effort as you would not really gain anything. The only thing it would do with longer arms is center the tire in the wheel well, but with even a 4 inch its not that much to fool with, then comes a longer driveshaft possibly and for what?
Now with the six inch from Als you need it but he includes it with the lift

since Als 6" lift doesnt need a longer drive shaft i would imagine a franky wouldnt either. but you guys all brought up good points. thanks for the help.

And to be quite honest with you, there is no loss of ride quality with the franky. In fact I'd even say it rides better that stock.

on the flip side you could get more flex in the rear and your tires would more likely stay straight as you flex up and down so you will not get the weeble wobble effect...i think 4-6 inches with 4 long arms, not the y-link, could make that liberty work even better off road...if that's all the height and such you plan... why not do it...

I don't know that the result after the arms would be worth the cost but like you said, if you wanna squeeze the most out of a 4" IFS lift, then go for it.

well cost is not really a factor, because one of my machinist friends has basically all the metal, and the ability. i think i may do it the summer for sh*ts and giggles. the only issue im concerned with is what to do with the Y link? would the factory Y link with a drop bracket defeat the purpose of the long arms?

I think that upper link in the Y would go bad a lot faster with long arms. Why not do top and bottom and fab up a new upper link?

thats prolly what will need to be done. i just dont have a lot of experience fabbing. Id like to hear what you more experienced LOST members would come up with. i dont know how, or where to mount the upper arms.. would the factory mounting point on the diff suffice? or would it need to be trussed? i guess i just need to get under the lib and look around. its kinda hard with a foot of snow on the ground though

I'd check out some trusses that some lift kits go with. ohv kj has his rear axle trussed I believe. Look for pics of it in his SFA thread towards the end.
