Ok, well I am considering getting a set since my rear shocks are "shot". Al, do you have any pics of your new mounts? If I wanted to use Rancho RSX9000X shocks (Ajustable for comfort), what size should I get? What about a set of regular Rancho shocks? Thanks!

The shock mounts are universal. So it won't matter which shocks you get.

Hey Guys,

The mounts are Warrior mounts, they are weld on. You must cut off the old ones. Here is what the mount look like installed. Note the added protection I had welded up!

PS This is before I lifted the back, and put the new Edelbrock AIS shocks on. And if you install these mounts use only on lifted KJ's and use the stock lenght shocks, not the lifted ones!!

Alright thanks Al. What size are the stock shocks for the record?

I like what you've done here. I'll be doing some slider protection shortly & relocating the shock mounts too.

The shock mounts will work on only lifted KJ's. The shock mounts are around 2 inches shorter than stock, so use only "stock" length shocks. So by shocks for an unlifted KJ. I like the Old Man emu shocks, they ride hard however. The Edelbrock shocks I have now are great off road, too soft for the hi-way. I just got in some Bilstein 5150's with 255/70 valving. I will let you know how they work. The Rancho shocks are good, but don't get the ones for the Dakota, they are too long.

I had the Old Man emu's on Liberty way back when, and the ride was nice and firm. I have them on Wife's grand, and over the oriignals the ride is much stiffer. Don't know if their different grades (valving) in the OME shocks.

yeah its interesting you say they are stiff/firm Al. I've got the OME kit & the shocks ride smoother/softer than OEM for sure, especially the front, they make the car po-go when driving down undulating roads, but i dont care much. ITs the rear ones that need more firmer valving. I'm going to use a GU Patrol rear shock & test that out. It has exptended & compressed measurements of, 656 & 392. I'll need to drill in a couple of 15mm bumpstop spacers for the rear.
I've tested the flex even with the rear sway bar still connected & everything works fine. OME coils are still trapped too. This includes a 10mm TJ rear spacer.

I'll do the rear shock mount conversion when & if I knock off a rear shock like you Al :P

FWÏW, shortly after my lift, I had a local shop just cut off the old mounts, cut 5" off, then weld them back on again. Cost about $100 - cheaper than new shocks, and gets them up out of the mud.

The warrior shock mounts are about $20 give or take. They are also a lot stiffer/more supportive than the OEM.
