Sounds like you pretty much have your mind made up. I know jack about lifts, but if you can do part of the upgrade now and part later, without doing any damage to the first part by not upgrading the 2nd part for a while, then go for it. If you're going to damage any of your new parts or have to replace them when you do the 2nd stage, I would definitely not go with that decision.
Sounds like money is tight. It is here too. I'd hate to get to this time next year and be out of money thinking about what I replaced TWICE the previous year out of impatience.
Where I work we buy all kinds of parts for the machines we build. We were low on cash a couple years ago so we started ordering only the parts we needed at the time. We used about 300 limit switches a year and started buying about 5 a week at $75 each insteaed of our old quantities of 100 pcs for about $30 each. Sure we "saved money" this week, but we were way behind by the end of the year.
Our motto should be "Robbing Peter to Pay Paul Since 1952". Just think of the big picture. How can you get the best quality for the least money in the long run. If you can go it in 2 installs, have at it!
I think were on the same track, as long as it doen't cost more money in the long run, forcing me to replace more parts because I delayed others, splitting the install up, isn't going to be a big deal. I will have the annoyance of doing 2 installs, but if that is ok, then why not.
As far as my mind being made up..... ahahahahaha. Really though, I'm hoping to be at the parts ordering stage in the next 2 weeks, to get this all figured out. Just trying to get the last details done now. And as I said, as long as Its not going to break anything, I want to reuse the stock struts. Not forever, but, for a bit.
