Timing belt change

Who is the guy that bought the engine tools on Ebay? I need to change my timing belt and tensioners. I found a guy that used to work on a lot of UPS trucks and has done the belt change on our engine many times and is willing to help me but needs the pins to lock the engine in time.

If he's done the belt change many times he should be able to improvise without the tools. One of the guys on the forum posted how he did it a while back. I've not done our CRD yet but have done other engines without the "special tools" and locking pins.

not to be a d*ck, but you are only asking for problems if you don't use the right tools. Diesels are a very different animal from the gasser side of things and most diesels are not alike . Personally I don't know much about the VM diesel, but what i do know, is if that engine moves even one tooth while the belt is off, you can kiss it good bye. Now, some times you can fudge when doing something such as valve lash or injection pumps, but only on certain engine. either spend the money and invest in the tools or have some one do it for you, because in the end, it will be cheaper than buying an engine.

Been there done that, small bore gauges, a micrometer, some steel, and a lathe is all you need to make the holding pins.

To be honest, it will take more time to draw them up with CAD than make them after taking the measurements off the engine.
