What was the manufacturing run for the '05-'06 CRDs?

Well if your asking how many were made for North America, I think the figure is around 10,000 for model year 2005 and 2006. There are quite a few more CRD's built and sold in Europe, Australia, not sure about Africa and South America.

I've seen/heard quoted that the total run for the U.S. was 16,000 to 18,000, 05 and 06 combined.

I have read that the initial plan was for 5,000 in 05, but demand exceeded capacity, so they dealt with VM Motori and ended up with 10,000 in the first calendar year. I can NOT find any information on the 06 production though. Not a single word anywhere. Very strange. I would guesstimate that retmil46's comment "total run for the U.S. was 16,000 to 18,000, 05 and 06 combined" is probably quite accurate.

X2, I’ve read in a few different places that somewhere in the proximity of 16,000 were manufactured. I’ve heard people say that Chrysler exceeded their projected sales goal, but I’ve also heard from a few dealerships that the CRD’s were slow to move and that Chrysler considered it short of par. So I'm not sure which one to believe.

Two and a half or so years ago this subject came up quite often  The figures I recall were 14,000 total with 11,000 of those being 05 model year  And after production was "officially" halted there were like 400 additional ones built in the summer of 06 :D But I don't recall them releasing any official numbers :? I tried doing a search here but every term I used came up with way too many hits

The KJ CRD was initially intended to be a 'market test' for US light duty diesels. It of course oversold expectations without any advertising, but because management wanted the 'market test' to fail, real production numbers were kept quiet.

Luckily, now management can point to the poor sales of the WK 3.0L (that marketing saw fit to double the option cost of by only putting incentives on gassers) as proof that 'Americans don't like diesels.'

My opinion only, not the opinion of my employer.

I've heard 10k planned, 12k sold. I've always assumed that meant '05 and '06.

What about the '07-'08 Export KJ's, with identical components but different part numbers for some of those components - how do they figger-in to those production numbers? Might even suspect they were just re-titled '05-'06's, but for the official factory-installed p\n tags with correct current-issue date codes

I 'spect a large consideration of the 'failure' was due to dealer and service-bay hassles resulting from the non-Diesel oriented Jeep technical base, creating great warranty expenses due to incorrectly-diagnosed shot-gun type repair and repeat 'repair' and incorrectly-reported repair-orders - the KJ CRD musta seemed like a stellar black hole to the entire gasser (patooie!) group - mechs were prolly forced to draw lots as to whose turn in the barrel, each time one rolled up to or was pushed to the service department................

North American isn't the center of the Universe despite what many American's think. The CRD Liberty did not begin in 2005 and end in 2006 except for North American deliveries. The 15,000 or so manufactured here for domestic delivery as a mere drop in the bucket of the total production since introduced.

My 2007 KJ CRD was built in late April 07 (export model to Australia). I believe it to be one of the last made as I can find no evidence of a later build date (at least among Australian owners. Can we work out the precise number by the Vin number range?

Recently I've been lead to understand that the KJ CRD NAFTA production was

15k (out of a planned 5k) for 2005
10k (out of a planned 5k) for 2006.

Still searching for documentation on that...

That figure will go way up if you add the total production of CRD KJ's since late '01.... :D

Go figure: of my local KJ crew we all 5 drive a CRD...

SAMCO had a lot of shipments to Spain!

Don't understand why your lawmakers think the diesel is so bad...over here 85% of the cars driving around are diesels....

We get every model JEEP makes with a diesel engine..even the Compass/Patriot...

Hence I refer to it as the KJ and not a Liberty/Cherokee but I know you were not talking about me :P
