Just changed my 05 CRDs rear diff fluid and replaced it with Moble1 75w90 stuff and it seeks to have a slight whine now. I added the additive also, even though i'm not sure I need it. Maybe I should have used 75w140? Anyone else have this problem?

do you tow anything? if so, shoulda used at least 75w110 (not available from Mobil, only Amsoil) though it calls for 75w140 for towing. at the least I would have used the 110 even if not towing.

I don't tow a whole lot but once in a while I do and I might be pulling my buddys boat more seeing as he just rolled his truck heh. I think I'll use the vacuum and suck out the 75w90 and throw in some 75w140. I don't see a point in removing the cover since I just changed and cleaned it last weekend. But do you think the light oil might cause increased whine? I never noticed it before the change but my girl friend has been driving it since I just bought a TJ.

I'm pretty sure I posted something in here about that, bad news it might need servicing.
My rear end needed a complete rebuild, warranty though. Wont hurt to take it in if your the original owner...
Now when asked if you changed the fluids, you can say yes I did, when you visit the dealer..

Sorry, but until the locker went into my KJ, I never ran more than a 75/90, despite occasional towing.

Rearend's never made a peep.
Could just be that the thicker fluid kept it quieter...but you have a problem now...so you'd better get hoppin on fixing it

Mine's done, long time ago, and replaced all with

But its done and time to do again shortly..now I
know what I'm doing.

Well it is a slight noise it's hard to notice if your not listing for it, the girl friend can't hear it but you know how that goes. I guess I'll try the 75w110 and see if that helps. Thanks.
