DTT and synthetic oil question

my DTT is misbehaving and either needs a spanking or it's throwing a fit due to the synthetic oil i put in it

back at bodie island it was pulling just fine, since then I changed the fluid and used synthetic, but over the weekend when i was at the rockpile with james (ohv-kj) he said it was only pulling with one wheel

i waited till about 4am and put it in the grass next to the parking lot and tied it to a sturdy lamp post last night and told a friend to raise his arms for whichever wheel was pulling and the only time he raised both arms was when i was putting more brake finesse on it than id really care to use

whats the chances of the dtt simply not liking the synthetic oil vs something being just jacked up, it's not making racket, no popping etc

input?

I have synthetic in my DTT, but Eaton does say NOT to use it, they say to just use the regular old conventional oil and for the DL they still recommend conventional but you dont have to so much on it.

hrmph.. looks like i'll be crossing my fingers and draining and refilling with regular dinopoo

that's like 25 bucks down the drain if it's the synthetic thats causing this

From DTT:" The patented design of parallel axis planetary helical gears provide a quiet, automatic splitting of torque." Since it is the relationship of how the helical gears are cut that create the torque bias ratio and how those gears respond to one another I wonder how any lubricant can change this relationship. I'll be curious to see the outcome on this one.

I always used full synthetic gear oil with my DTT and never had any issues.Detroit just states no special gear oil is specified to use the DTT or the Detroit Locker and any gear oil will not damage them.

The DTT in the front needs a little brake pedal action to "lock up",just remember that the DTT is a LSD and NOT A LOCKER,all LSD's suffer this fate but the DTT takes more torque to unlock it then a clutch based LSD(plus last longer).

yea, i've always had to give it a little brake, but it's taking an abnormally high amount of brake to lock it up and it's not behaving consistantly

gonna go the cheep route and do another fluid change and see if it continues to act up, get worse, or get better

if it doesn't improve looks like im gonna have to get the front diff worked over
