I'm going on a snow run this Saturday and was packing things up when I realized I didn't know what (if any) spare parts are normall to bring along. What all do you guys/gals bring?? Now I'm not asking about tools; just parts.

The only thing I take (so far) besides tools are extra fluids, duct tape and safety wire. I haven't broken anything (so far). It all depends on what the most vunerable parts are on the KJ, which I think has yet to really be determined. Also depends on what will be fixable on the trail.

I bring a spare wagon tongue, two wheels, and sometimes a spare oxen. If you don't need em, you can always barter with the locals to get what you do need.

That last one reminds me of an old computer game I used to play at school. Anyone else remember Oregon Trail???

I carry:
serpentine belt
oil filter
duct tape
fuses
1 qt oil
stop leak
full tool set
shop manual
hand cleaner

I'm working on getting some more stuff too, like this wonderful hi-lift everyone is so fond of.

Rick

oh man they used to make us play oregon trail in grade school!!!! it was sooo easy. anyways, fluids, pliers, serpentine belt, straps (yes as in 3, a 10 foot, a 20 foot, and a 30 foot, all 22,000lb with loops, you can never be too versatile), clevis's (i have 20, army surplus find $2 per piece and they are rated for 7 tons!!!), air compressor, tire plugs, snow chains, socket set, screw drivers.

I haven't broken anything on the trail yet so this list will grow as I do.

jpzkj - how do you manage to get a ATV in the back of your jeep? That would make for some interesting wheeling! At least you would have a way out if the Jeep breaks.

Oregon Trail...that was a DOS game, right? Between that and Space Trek I was LOST

Beyond that, I'm still gawking at uvalax's list. I've got all the tools and fluids and more, but none of the parts anymore (used 'em all up)...

thank you for the replies, but as I stated; I was looking to hear what PARTS you bring...not TOOLS. ie U-joints, axle shafts, etc.

Just the belts and hoses for me and the K&N air filter cleaning kit. With only a 2.5 inch lift and mostly driving in mud, CV's and U-Joints last quite a while (19 year old male driving). You need to be doing serious rock crawling to begin to worry about busting up a driveshaft or have quite a bit of lift...

well I haven't broken anything yet, but you never know
The Jeep club I belong to seems to always like to push the limit. All everyone seems to want to do is rocks these-days.

You can keep your rock crawling, mud seems to be easier on vehicles and just as much of a challenge. That and there is more mud here then rocks.

Duct tape and Strapping tape. You can fix just about anyting with these 2. The strapping tape can also tow a car if needed, takes a few raps but the stuff is tough as nails. I fixed the throttle linkage on an old pickup with duct tape one time after I towed it off the freeway with the strapping tape.

Pull over and shut the truck off!! Thats all you can do if you can't see out the damm window. A spare pair of wiper blades rides in my parts kit. Should change them out yearly, but who does!. They don't take up much room and are good cheep insurance for a safe ride.
