I tried the ORM on my 06 CRD tonight and the CEL came on instantly (expected) and we drove (offroad of course) and upon returning just for some practice I hooked up my new scanner per the instructions and it said "no codes". I knew better with the CEL on. Any body else had problems not reading codes with this scanner? Harbor freight Cen-Tech #94169.

I did notice a difference in the way it idled and ran. Maybe the EHM is next followed by a gutted cat.
Thanks.

Several people have had problems with that code reader. I would suggest the one that I, and several others have:

I got a CenTech from HF. Mine was around 100 bucks though and I haven't had any issues thus far.

He can go to the jeep site, key in his vin and see if there is a outstanding RECALL. But I don't think this is his problem because the scanner found a computer. If he needed F31 recall it would not have communicated with it at all. The problem was caused by a pre f37 flash to protect our fragile torque converters that was available only for a short time in June of 06  I had a two button HF scanner, not the suspect one, and it works fine on CRD's. I can't give you the number because I gave it to my son

I have that same code reader. I was given good advice here on how to get it to work. You need to angle the connector to the right into the port just barely, until you get a display. Let it continue to scan in until it gets past the PWM stuff, then push the connector in all the way. Then it seems to work as normal, and I always got the right code for the "ORM" mod.

Yep that did it. I got P0102 which is correct. Thanks again for the help.[/quote]
