From some other posts on here it would seem that that may have been the source of some of the CCV/ MAP sensor problems. When overfilled with oil, the oil mist produced in blowback, exiting the CCV, would then go into the intake and sludge up the MAP sensor and the MAF sensor, and oil up the CAC hoses and thusly the internals of the intercooler.

If I were to follow that logic and the testimony of BVCRD, then it would seem that as long as I make sure I don't overfill the engine with oil, there is no need to worry about many of the mods on the forum, correct? Or am I assuming too much?

I wouldn't be so brave as to go that far. Might get hammered on here for doing so. I can say that the last 2 times I checked my MAP sensor, it didn't need cleaning since measuring my oil.

Maybe you should check your hoses and MAP sensor.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out exactly where and what the MAP sensor is. BVCRD directed me to a thread in the "Tech Only" section that helped, I'm going to pull it and take a look at it Saturday.

I have noticed that my air filter seems to get motor oil on it; I'm guessing that the oil is exiting the CCV into the intake, then after the engine is shut off it collects and flows down to the air filter. In that case, I guess I need to definitely pull the intercooler hoses and look at them as well.

Does anyone know if there is an at-home way to clean the internals of the intercooler itself?

I think it is real time consuming. Another thing is you want to make sure you run a clean air filter all the time. Our CRD airboxes that house the filter are prone to sucking rain/water into them, and once the filter gets wet, mega oil may circulate around in the intake. Some take an airbox off a gas Libby to solve this problem.

I've thought about how to do it, and the only thing I can come up with is to take it out, since inlet and outlet are up top. Maybe there is a drain?

Nope no drain. You have to pull it out and it is a bear to get out without taking the AC lines loose. It can be done but it sucks.

How hard would it be to make a drain?
I mean - drilling a hole would be easy - but could we get it to seal?

That would work but you would be on the low side of full. The conservative in me wants that extra oil just in case I drop a bunch out on the highway. Yea right, but the added oil may help cool things and make the oil last longer.

I always keep the level on the low side of full. I find the Jeep and my Mercedes actually stabilize there; if they are more full, the oil will drop to the lower level. But I don't have an EHM mod on either vehicle.

That's what I find too, but I think I may be carrying a cup more oil than you. Who knows with these dipsticks.
