Brake Pads

Are the OEM brake pads ceramic :?:

Is there anything special i need to know before i replace my front pads as i'm considering a non OEM part.

Thanks for the advice.

No, they're not ceramic. The reason I know this is because when my brake sqeal was going on, I suggested ceramic to stop it and they said ceramic would chew up the rotors.

If i match the rotors with the ceramic pads, would it improve the braking, last longer than standard pads, i know i wouldn't get black brake dust on the rims.

It might help braking, but I feel the stock pads are good. My son is just now learning to drive, and he switches between the CRD and a 2007 Mustang GT that we have. He feels the brakes on the GT are softer and not as reponsive as the CRD. I am getting ready to bleed the CRD brakes and flush the moisture laden old stuff out of there. We'll see if that makes a noticable difference.

Guess others haven't heard of brake pad lube,need to use it on the mount slides and pad slides also in addition to the back of pads and 99% of the squealing will disappear.Most times when breaks are squealing it is because they are dry as is the pad slides,the other times it is the wear indicator rubbing on the rotor or small rocks caught in the pad between the rotor and the pad.

For the rear they need to remove the rotor and clean and adjust the parking brake also if you have rear discs,many forget that the parking brake is back there.

Mine was a pad material thing. It did it from day one as I pulled out of the stealership. It quit as the pads heated up. It usually only did it when the humidity was real high, or the pads had gotten wet. I haven't noticed it for a while now. Just one of those things that you shouldn't have to live with on a new rig.

Supposing I wanted to use Titanium/Kevlar pads...will they hurt the rotors at all or should I just stick with a good set of ceramics?
I had kicked the idea of doing pads and rotors to get better braking. IF I decide to do rotors also....slotted, drilled, both or plain? Any recommendations?

I used Ferodo OEM replacements fro the rear and they just started sqealing about 6 months after the change. I just ordered EBC Yellow Stuff race compound pads for the front and when I do the front I plan on cleaning the rears and re-lubing everythign again. I also will clean the rims on the inside as well and add a coat of wax to them to keep down on brake dust. I will clean the calipers as well and maybe hit them with a coat of flat black grill paint to keep things clean. Oh and the rotors are from DBA slotted only.

Forgive my ignorance here but were the Ferodo rears ceramic and what compound are the EBC's, Ferodo i can get quite easily and not from the dealer.

Sorry I missed this reply.

No they are the "normal" pads but very grippy on the Ferodo's. The Jeep feels more balanced when I brake under normal braking.

EBC that are on the way are Yellows. The DBA rotors are at the house and waiting for the pads to show. About $450 for all delivered tot eh house. If I am lucky I might have them on Sunday or the following weekend. Once I get them all together then I can snap some photos.
