I small hit on mileage and power isn’t worth an overheated engine and being stranded out on the trail. I’ve read at least three different scenarios on this forum where someone’s electric fan stopped working on them and they had to pull off on the side of the road or shut her down on the trail until the engine could cool off. As a matter of fact, I sold my factory fan to a guy who had his electric fan fail in the remote mountains of Colorado. So sometimes reliability is more important than saving a little power. You could do more for your horsepower, torque, and mileage by adding 4:10’s than by neglecting a mechanical fan. Anyway, that’s my thinking.

When my electric fan died i ordered a new one from the dealer for $600. When it came however it was a little different than my old one and turned the opposite direction. I tried taking out the motor and fitting it into my old shroud but it does not work. I took it back and found it is the one for the towing package which i do not have. To get this to work i would have to buy a new shroud and mechanical fan so i was looking at $900 or so for all that. So i just got them to order the right fan. Looking back i guess i could have spent the extra money and got the extra stuff but at the time in a hurry and didn't want to spend more than i had to. If i wanted to upgrade now i would have to buy a new electric fan. Not cheap from the dealer here.

icarl, I paid $249 for the entire heavy duty fan kit, which comes with the shroud, and both fans.

Now you know what we have to put up with here in Canada, eh? Out of curiosity where did you buy it?

This is a cut and paste from the first page of this thread. I posted this back in October and it appears that the website is currently under construction. Either way, you can see that it came from bbjeep.

http://bbjeep2.stores.yahoo.net/jeeplibheavd.html

This particular website lists the part number under the 2002 - 2003 Liberty which is not true, so ignore the model years listed in the link and keep with the true part number. This part # does align with the 2006-2007 models.

Item # 82208909 - 2004-2005 Liberty
Item # 82206937 - 2006-2007 Liberty

That link currently isnt working dieselenthusiast.

So the part number(82208909) is the same for 02-05? Not sure what you mean by that but I cant see the web page..

They had the wrong part numbers matched with the wrong model year. I do know that there are two part numbers (82208909 for early models) and (82206937 for the late models) but I'm not 100% sure when the switch was. I'm guessing the part numbers that I typed above are the correct numbers for the models years, but I typed that info back in October and have forgotten since then. I went to Mopar and got my part #, this is why I knew what to order. Just to be sure, go to Mopar and ask for your part number and then go back to the website and order based on that part #.
