I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade 4x4. I have ordered a 2 1/2" Daystar Lift, Rancho rear shocks, and 1.25" wheel spacers. I live in Maine, and don't really do any hardcore wheeling. My offroading consists of remote dirt roads and some older logging roads/trails that are a little rocky, usually to go fishing or camping. My liberty has 113,000 miles on it. I've got exhaust, intake and a throttle body spacer on it. Enough about the background, on to my questions:

Do I need to replace the front struts (shocks) and coils? Both? Only one of them? Or neither? Currently my jeep rides well, and sits level also. Just looking for some advice, sorry to ask the same type question again but I can't seem to figure out what exactly needs to be changed....if anything.

Also, if you do suggest a change, please suggest what to change it out with. I know about the rancho struts, 17505 but I am unsure about other alternatives or springs if needed. Thanks, your help is appreciated.

Well, the stock coils will work, sounds like that haven't sagged "that much" if it's still level...still most likely worn out anyway. If you were going to replace the front coil, just go ahead and buy a set of OME 926( med duty) or 927 ( HD) springs and forget the spacer....the springs will give you the lift you want. Also, to install the Daystar spacer, you have to separate the strut assembly, might as well replace the strut while you have it apart...those stockers are probably toast anyway. For the money you are looking to spend in upgrading the front springs/shcoks, you could have bought the rear springs too ( OME 947)and have a high quality light without the spacers.
I would at the minimum, replace the front struts while it's apart if you don't want to spend the extra on springs.

Thanks. Should I go with the Rancho 17505 or are there other options available? I can't seem to find the Rancho's for under 90 a peice anywhere. Also, do I need to replace any of the factory bumpstops? Again, not really wheeling this just some old skidder trails. I've done all of these trails before, with the liberty stock. Just want the extra clearance and to make it look like a jeep and not a glorified grocery getter.

DO NOT use your old suspension,
stock suspension starts to go at 30,000 miles or so, at 113,000 your springs and shocks are toast.

You will be so much more happier with new springs and shocks , will ride better than new and you will have the look you want as well.

Bumpstops , yes even if you are going over plain old roads , you still may get into a situation where one side or the other is compressed enough to possibly cause some damage to the springs or shocks. It is cheap insurance.

Back to the Daystar its a good lift but only if you have a few thousand miles on the Kj and springs. Some will tell you different but they are only kidding themselves and in the long run will have to replace as well.

Do it right the first time and enjoy the ride afterwards!

To me putting on a Daystar with over 100,000 miles on the KJ is like putting new shoe laces in 20 year old sneakers, they may look better but your toes are still sticking out of the holes
OME 927s (HD) front or 926s (Medium)
Rear OME 948 (HD) or 947 (Medium)
Front Ranchos RSX 17505
Rear Ranchos RSX 17004
Teraflx front bumpstops

What is the cost of the new springs. I already purchased the daystar lift 8 months ago, and it's just been sitting there. I ordered the rear shocks and wheel spacers last week.

springs will run you about 280 or so, about 70/75 each
and then you have the shocks
If you look at doing a Daystar with it and shocks you are only saving about 150 or so from going all new springs so its all depends on what you want But if you are planning on keeping the KJ for a while it is a worthwhile UPGRADE to it

Not Directed at the original poster but....
I have yet to understand why people replace everything but dont spend the extra $150 for all new OME coils that are an easy 20X better than OEM coils.

No offense taken. But that's why I'm here. To find out what it is I should do, instead of doing something and then having to redo at a later date. I'd rather wait a little bit to get the correct parts then to pay for the same install twice.

So then, can I install the daystar lift with new coils, or do I need to just scrap the daystar lift and buy new coils? I know I need to get the fron rancho struts, but do I get the lift from the springs alone or a combination or both the kit and springs.

OME HD springs will do the lift for you. no daystar needed.

JBA has both the springs and shocks.

There is a for sale section in this forum where you can put your spacer lift up for sale.

NO do not install the spacer with the new coils you will have too much lift and it will cause many problems for you. I would sell the daystar and buy new coils. the coils will give you the lift, they dont really look any taller than your OEM coils but its because they have a higher spring rating, which is where your lift comes from.

for shocks I would give www.boulderbars.com a call they sell the front and rear Rancho shock you need, and for the coils I went through Dirk at www.DPGOffRoad.com and you need to call him and tell him you want the OME HD coils for the KJ, his number is 316-776-9900

Is it possible/ok to do 1.5" coils in addition to new shocks, struts and the Daystar kit? Would that give me a total lift of 4"? Are there any issues with this if it's possible? Hardware failures? etc.

haha no but nice try, if you were to do that you would have many failures and it would cost you big. ARB advertises the coils as 1.5" of lift but you will actually get about 2.5" then if you still want some more lift you can add a rear upper iso and a clevis lift and make it into a 3-3.5" lift

Worth a shot I guess. So really what needs to be done is, purchase Rancho front struts, front 1.5" coils and rear 1.5" coils (which will give me 2.5" all around?) and to resell the daystar to someone else or just scrap it? I think I got it down.

yep the p/n are OME 927 front OME HD coils, OME 948 Rear HD coils, Rancho RSX17505 front shocks, Rancho RSX17004 rear shocks.

as for the daystar I would post it up in the for sale section.

^^^^ + teraflex 1903200 front bump stops $50.00, + some hockey pucks for rear bump stops (2 or 3 per side depending on tire size, a few bucks for bolts/washers/nuts, and about a $1 a puck, unless you are canadian, cause here they grow on trees)

Sell the daystar and go with the above, you will be much happier with the end result.
