The EGR system in that pdf article is a retrofit system for the older EuroII/III LTI taxis that used the Ford engine. The LTI TX4 that uses the VM R2516 has its own EGR circuit and is EuroIV compliant.

I'm noticing a little change in engine sound recently, but I think that's because my new tires are so silent I can now hear more sounds from the engine.

MPGs are unchanged, power is unchanged. I think my theory therefore is correct.

Uffe, I also had an increase in engine noise and found that my fan clutch siezed up. Going to change soon, I'll let you know if it quiets down.

Be my guest, but I haven't got the CRD anymore.

Your post, however, could be useful for others, so don't hesitate to put your comments on the board :)

Just rolled over 70,000 miles, runs better than the day I bought it.

EGR at about 20k followed by the ORM (because I'm too lazy to build my SEGR)
In Tank Fuel pump - should have been there from the start, bad design choice, cured the hard starting

Lots of other mods, but these are the only ones that count as repairs

I have 105,000 miles.
Never had issues/leaks with fuel filter, never changed an EGR.

Only maintenance is regular oil changes and I did replace the timing belt and all idler pullies/tensioner at 104k.

Need another (3rd) set of tires this summer.

Just crossed 89,000 guess it's time to update the signature. Starting to think about that timing belt project in the next 12 months...whoever heard of a diesel with a timing belt. We're they worried about chain noise hitting the Consumer Reports issues list?

Mine is sitting at 62,500 miles now. With exception to the (oil) leaky turbo replaced under warranty, no diesel issues that weren't my fault. I did have the ball joints replaced with Moogs and the UCA's replaced with JeepinbyAl's. Window regulators seem to be the issue at the moment. Other than the Saiko catch can, not other mods.

The VW Jetta TDI has a timing belt too. Anyone have an explanation as to why some engines have the belt instead of a chain? It seems to be that smaller engines tend to come with belts for whatever reason.

All VW tdis have timing belts and older nissan patrols (pre-2000) as well.

Sounds like a lot of us are getting close to the timing belt change project. I am at 70K. Is this something that can be done by us or is this a shop only project? Has anyone done a write up on it?

I did a similiar Aussie survey a few months ago, we have several KJ CRDs that are now over 240,000km, or 148,000 miles. :)

My 2000 XJ is at 197k , ive seen many 4.0L jeeps in the 200k-300K range.
Maintance is the key.

Im expecting my CRD [89K] to outlast the body.
