As my three kids got bigger, the Liberty got smaller and smaller. I traded it on a GMC Yukon Denali XL. I wish they would put a diesel in a bigger vehicle other than a heavy duty truck. The denali is a fantastic vehicle and really hauls-ass for its size.

I miss the CRD, but it is also nice to know parts for a GM 6 liter are plentiful and cheap. By the way, the dealer gave me the book "trade in" value for the jeep.

Put in the 3/4 running gear and Allison, left rear axle loves to twist off.

For the diesel, ya should have gone with the Ford Excursion. Or as it should be known, the Ford Expansion. That beast is frelling HUGE, but at least Ford has the decency to offer it with a motor that is up to the task.

Why GM insists on using gas engines in those monsters, I will never know. I SUSPECT it has something to do with their colossal screw-up of diesel technology in the 70s/80s... But really now. They are buying their engines from an outside supplier. Why not put them in anything that they can fit beneath the hood?

I thought about the Excursion. My neighbor has one and I have driven/rode in it several times. It doesn't ride anywhere near as nice as my Denali. While the Denali XL is large (it's a Suburban) it really doesn't
seem like a large vehicle when you drive it. In addition, the 6 liter LQ4 engine is definietly up to the task, and I don't tow with it. I can also get better than 15 mpg on the interstate at 75 mph. By far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

Much of the ride quality could be helped or hurt by the choice of tires and pressure. After that, shocks and spring changes, like adding airbags to the springs. I'm not familiar with the Excursion's suspension, but I know that the one that I rented rode fine. Certainly nowhere near as bad as the 24' Enterprise box truck that I had to drive across country. That thing (running mostly empty for weight) had those wheel balancer rings with the oil and bearings... And bounced like you wouldn't believe for the first 30 minutes every day. Not even the air powered seat could fix that.

Ford had the Dog Leashes on the Bean Counters at the time the Excursion was created. Ford trucks were selling great at the time and Management did not want to screw things up. The biggest problem I ever heard of with F-250/350 Excursion with the diesel option was poorly selected gearing. If all you are going to do is cruse down the road, you don't need a 4.56:1 rear end.

any way, the 3/4 ton running gear handled the Diesel.

Congrats on your GMC Yukon Denali XL purchase. Is it a new one, or used? My buddy has a Suburban SS and you're right, those things can haul butt. We rented one in FL too for our trip down the Keys. It had the new fuel-saving cylinder shut-off function and I was really impressed with the mileage we got out of that big ol' thing.

One of the nice things about the full-size GM SUVs is their turning radius. I can really whip those things through a parking lot, regardless of their size. They handle quite well.

Are we gonna see any picts of your new toy?

I bought it used. I was looking at something in the 05-06 years but then I found a like new black 03 with 60k miles for 15k. There is very little difference between an 03 and 06 anyway. I feel sorry for the people that bought these things for 50k back in 03 when they were popular-they haven't kept their value very well. As far as pics, I'm not sure about posting Denali pics on a Jeep forumn; there might be some rumbling over that.

We also have an 03 Denali. It is a great vehicle. The Denali 6.0 is the same one as the SS trucks of similar years. Is your front end noisy like ours (eve after a rebuild) It has gear/bearing whine, a very commen problem.

I own a 2000 X with a 7.3 and a vegistroke wvo system.I have all the goodys (chip, exhaust,rims,bullbar,and AIS air intake),I love that truck,and use it for highway trips and towing ANYTHING I put behind it.I have towed my crd and 2 cords of wood at the same time on a 26 foot flatbed,all the time getting 20 MPG.Its only luxury weakness is its ride quality,I fixed that with bilstein shocks and E rated tires.But show another truck that still rides that good with a solid front axle............

I had the front end whine, but had it fixed under the 3month/3k warranty the Chrysler dealer put on it. It is quiet now.
