Thanks Steve, the guys doing it have been great so far, much cheaper than any other install quotes, and they have been mucked around too. The guy is also going to the the Re placement of the DTT at a "Special Price" so thats also good news. Shouldn't be too bad, they've had plentey of practice pulling KJ diff apart in the last week  , so the guys there will be able to do it in their sleep.

Good news is the illusive Rock Rails will be arriving on the 19th.... Pity I leave for Vietnam on the 18th, so that instal will have to wait until I get back. But look out once alls weel agian, there'll be a big LOST weekend out, so I can break all the new bits..

I could clearly see the tone ring on the old one, so I hope it just bolts on and off..

Say with all these shady characters lurking around trying to "COLLECT" your rails for you maybe someone from the southside of town who would have to drive another hour to get to your house should be trusted to pick them up. Hey I just remembered. I fit that description maybe you could trust me.

after a check engine light ,a dodgy o2 sensor connection - I think? a flooded downstairs again! and every decent job I've had for the past couple of weeks being delayed due to rain I really really want to change my rego plate to 'the pissing it down state', or even the 'wet and grey state' or the 'just stop $@$#%$& raining state'

it must be my english blood but I really hate rain, and I mean hate, storms are great, crash bang :-) rain is just wet boring and the only good thing about it is it makes mud  But enough already

for those at coffs hope the rain held off. for cmohr, hope its all back together soon for everyone else 'happy easter'

Yes, this rain is really getting a bit much....

Well I had a big day on Friday going over the underside of the KJ and found, Yes, rear upper ball joint on the Tri-link on its way out again, also, had more bangs in the front because I had the new front struts put in, and guess what, Upper control arms ball joints stuffed again, Yes, i only just changed them not so long ago, So thats it, I'm going to either get some of those wizz bang ones from the US, or see if there is some boffin over here that can engineer some..

For the moment I have put supporting nolathane washers around the ball joints to take the shock of bumps that will keep them going till I get something..I must admit, I am thinking of the Rocky Road ones, as I do like the replaceable bushes as well as the ball joint. Unless the engineers can come up with something, as I will have them working on an adjustable rear tri-link, to correct the downmovement so the ball joint does get done again, and to correct the pinion angle for the lift.

At this stage I have to keep going forward, too much money spent to go back, plus have a Long Range Tank in the pipeline..

I just want to get this done so as I can enjoy the Belafonte instaed of just fixing it all the time..

Can't wait for some satay dog next week in Vietnam

I understanda the frustration - my old CJ was great but then the problems started and it took nearly 7 years to get it right again, I'd already spent so much it had to be finished. Then along came the bub and no child seat so it never got used. But it did end up being a great jeep.

The Kj's the same for me, its not really big enough but the only other option I can come up with is a Patrol and then its more $$'s more mods etc etc plus its not a jeep  So the KJ stays and I need to get more creative - not going as far as you..yet more being creative with space and fixing the bangs.

The arms from RR are what Iv'e been looking at to solve my front end bangs - but interested in their replacement roof rails - I carry a lot of stuff on the roof and it could give me more options. or maybe I should relook at fabbing up some feet for the Rola rack - anyone else looked at that?

I just bought me one of those little Ozito arc welder woosits, and I'am thinking the same thing myself, I also want the rack to be longer, almost the entire roof area, so there will be heaps of space up there, plus, some of the weight can be further forward, more in th emiddle of the car, instead of all over the rear.

Rear diff is on its way. Now just have to decide between the rocky road or Als upper arms.. my first thoughts were the RRO because of the bushings being replacable, but, now thinking the Als arms becaus ethey are the original parts, and that means I'll be able to get them here in Oz...Nobby has Als arms in his, so I'm starting to think that way. Plus, with them , I have a little idea about an extra stopper that can go in the balljoint mount to help as a limiter. I'll take a couple of pics of what I just put in on the weekend, to keep my current buggered ones from getting more damage. Don't worry they are only temp, I want to have the new arms in th ecountry by the time I gets back from Nam...

There are a couple of good rack fabrication threads over on the Fab forum, and this one seems to be the latest:

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=40168

If your going to get AL's arms, will that need engineering certification? How did Nobby handle that? Wish I knew he had them I could of had a look at Coffs.

What's the long term fix for that rear upper ball joint, you seem to have ongoing problems with that one? Is it because of your lift height? At what point do we need to start worrying about it?

:?

i was watching that thread for a while but it got a little - emotional.

But it seems that everyone has calmed down and I do like the latest designs by Boiler. its a cage and roof bars in one. I would still like to cantilever some frame over the front mounts - even 200 more would give much more balence and space. maybe a stretch of the roal rack would be the go :?:

Over articulation, I like to drive what can I say, but thats the price.....

It gets BETTER..
Rear diff, star gears.....all chipped and rooted......car is apart... darn, should have got the DTT for the rea, I knew I should have..

So... Now I have to decide..

Try and get NEW star gears for Mansfield... Waiting on them to call me back with price, and rebiuld my existing diff centre

Get a second hand diff centre, eith Jeeepart or maybe one of the lads that did change theirs out..

Just throw hands in the air and get a DTT for the rear ( have them reassemble that rear for the time being and drive VERY carefully until it arrives)

This just keeps getting better and better..

Sorry to read this Cmohr, hope it's all sorted soon without too much of a pain.

Hey CD, thanks Matey, just part of Jeeping I spose......I'm setting down now a bit, want to make the Belafonte more of a tourer than a climber, so hopefully stop breaking things... Doesn't mean I'll stop driving up hill tho  I think now with the gears and the DTT's, I won't have to go as hard to get up stuff, I'll be able to drive over things rather than jump them, so less stresses

Glen, when I take everything out of the back of the KJ I have 575 - 580 lift in the rear (hub centre to arch) But its not so much the height, its what happens at full articulation, as well, the bump stops, I'd have to draw a diagram, I can really explain on the phone..
Basiscally the rubber the ball joint is mounted in is overstressed, and eventually rips, then the ball joint is able to move inside its press fitting, and the top of the balljoint taps against the pressfitting cap. I know this because I took apart my old one to see whats what and you could see the contact marks...

With the front, I have a spacer that lifts the coil perch up the strut, thats how I get MY lift, and why I get the contact of the arm and the ball joint against the coil. I want to stop that, and the only way is with these non original arms, I'll be painting them black so as you can't see them..With the front arms, well Yes I do believe an inspection would be needed.

And Steve, I was only saying to somebody the other day, I'd like to buy another Vortex rack and cut them bothup to make one big long one , then add roof feet and bolt it to the top of the KJ. A full roof rack would certainly be THE POO..

Yeh, things are ok at Curragh, just heard the other day we have picked up another million tonnes but at much lower (59%) price. There's no doubt some changes are to come but fore the moment alls good. There have been a lot of smaller contractors go by the wayside. Only last week we started a couple more dragline operators from BMA.

No Thanks. I don't think I would put tha much into a IFS. If I wanted that height I would do the SFA.
