I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, if it has I apologize. The warning light came on and after looking it up I determined it was the low tire pressure light. This has happened approximately 5 times since I have owned my jeep (20,000 miles). Each time that I checked the tire pressure all four tires were dead on. Anyone with any input on this? I realize it is most likely over sensitive and not a big deal. Is is possibly due to temperature?
My reason for bothering to ask is that on a recent trip home from D.C., it came on shortly after leaving. I started to think it felt like it was handling different, but after stopping twice to be safe and check, the tire pressure was good in all tires. The light stayed on for the majority of the drive, atleast 2 hours or so.
Thanks for any input.

If it very cold out you will get the TPMS light on until you put some heat in the tires. Also as others have said check your spare and make sure it has enough pressure. Is this does not fix your issue take it to the dealer and have them check it out, you might have a bad sensor in one of your rims.

All of the above. For future reference... Also remember the sensors have batteries in them. They can go dead. They are supposed to have a 5 year life.

Good information guys, Thank You. I have not checked the spare, so that will be the first thing that I do. I usually keep the tires at 33psi, so I guess it may be a little over sensitive as Boblemoche explained. Maybe 34 would prevent it from getting triggered.

I have been keeping mine at 36. The other day my tire pressure thing went off and I checked all my tires (including the spare) immediately. Everything was at 36. Maybe its a NJ thing?

It's the cold weather that is causing the light. Once you heat them up the light goes away. If you heat them up and the light stays on, then you have another issue that could be a dead battery or just a bad sensor.

I think I'm going to try to keep them at a higher pressure too...What is your reason for keeping it at 36? Do you notice an improvement in handling at all? Also, it is very possible it is just a NJ thing....weird things happen here.

As far as the cold weather, I have noticed the light coming on until the tires warm up in very low temperatures. However, this was not the case on Monday as it was about 65-70 degrees out where I was.

tires still get about a 3psi flux between cold (haven't been driven in like 30mins) and warm (15 miles or so) no matter how warm it is outside, probably just more so if it's colder

I've got the limited with EVIC - so I can see the PSI of my tires right on the instrument cluster.

I did have a warning one day - it was parked outside (the first time it had been) in about -25C all day. Tire's pressure showed 28psi. My guess is if it falls below 30, they trip.

the recommended COLD tire inflation pressure is 33psi - mine warm up to about 36/37 once I get out on the road.

Slightly improves MPG's . . . although since I have kept track of every fillup for nearly 20K miles, the difference is negligible. I do get an extra 2MPG since switching to synthetic oil though!

just so you know a tire is no longer considered cold after it has traveled 1 mile and then there is a 2-4 hour cool down time, can't really remember that part, but do remember the 1 mile part

Thats good to know zoso. I just recently bought Mobil 1 Synthetic to switch over next time I change it. Im glad to hear you had such a good MPG improvement. Im going to try to run the psi a little higher as well and see how it feels. I also seem to have an obsession with tracking my MPG, have been doing so since the first fillup.

I too have tracked since the first fill up. Tell me you listen to Stern on that Sirius of yours and I am going to start thinking you are me.

Haha I do listen to Stern....that Sirius radio has completely changed driving for me. Again, maybe its a "NJ thing" that we have in common...

Stern is the only reason I get up and go to work in the morning. God I hope he re-ups for five more years.
