I Just completed a SEGR install on "05 Liberty. All went well using a pin on ECU connections to find wires. the segr clicks when shifting. All lights and circuits seem fine ,Just no Starter when Key is turned. Also throwing p1140 codes. Anyone got a clue what i cut wrong??

ok started now. I double checked the cpu connections at the harness end. all is well. After it was reconnected Jeep started normally. I Guess the C2 connector was not fully seated. However I am getting 0403 and p 1140.

0403 is a inop EGR valve which is what you want. Very good for your engine no crap flowing back into your intake. 1140 I do not know what that is it is not listed on the OBDll list but mine gives me the same code. I still can not figure out what that means. I have had that 1140 code since I did the ORM about 80,000 miles ago and no problems.

My ORM only gives me a code 0102 when I first start it about every other time. With the code reader always plugged in the code is cleared and the lights is out before I can get out of the neighborhood.

1140 is short circuit in MAF circuit I think. I had that and short in EGR circuit, so the ORM is on now and as so and I get a chance, I'll go over the wiring again.

I've returned from test drive. All functions appear fine. The Liberty has good pep and no black smoke on acceleration. Incidentally I replaced the fuel water separator at the same time. I used the mopar replacement and I still have a WIF Light the first few miles, then it goes out. When I drained the filter the fuel looked clean. I'll have to search some more.

If the computer is throwing an EGR code, that means that the wiring is wrong. The SEGR subs in a FAKE EGR (that is the big 10 Ohm resistor).

I would recheck the wiring. Pay close attention to the Inputs and Outputs to the SEGR. I know that has been very confusing to many.

BlackLibertyCRD what type of code reader are you using, and are there any adverse effects to leaving it permanently hooked up. Thanks

T Tim When I double checked the wiring, all the positions matched from the connectors to the Segr harness. I even checked the wire at the MAF for continuity and reconnection. Looking in the builders thread it sounded like UFO had similar code problems. I also am assuming the PCB is OK, the fix for the extra trace seemed to be on earlier revision. Whenever a scan is run with my HF OBD CAN tool, the codes reappear as soon as they are erased. p 1140 and p 0403, also 102 popped up but was erasable. Other than codes the Jeep runs fine.

Turbo Tim is right--proper connections to the ECU and verification of wiring is very important and when working properly the SEGR is in complete control- no MAF, EGR, FCV associated codes will come on /remain on.

I had a problem till I reverified connections and found 1 pr of wires crossed- did the fix and NO DTC's what so ever and since. The system does work!

I love this thing, EGR delete - lots of extra power!

BTW I had a simple code reader connected always to clear codes before SEGR and no problems. since SEGR no need to keep it connected. Bought this reader from Autozone quite a few years ago.

Oh yeah Off Road use only :)

I have a cheap code reader from Harbor Freight that has a removal cord and plugs directly in. It is barely noticeable and you can look down and watch it in action clearing the codes. I had to have my ECM/TCM updated for the generic code readers for those that can't get their code reader to work, that is the problem.

One time I left both the code reader and XM radio receiver turned on for about two weeks while away and it ran the battery down. I knew since it is a spiral cell battery that slow charging for a day was the right way to bring it back up. I still have the original battery and still worked perfect when I was in Bozman, MT -10F last month leaving the code reader plugged in. :D

I have to ask, but did you "Cut" the wires for the EGR and MAF? The SEGR has to be in control of these signals. For proper wiring, they do have to be cut. Hopefully you soldered and used heat shrink to do your connections.
Let us know....

Since you asked.Yes,after each wire was identified by pin method. The 3 C-2 connections were tapped and taped 'as told by gmctd' , not cut . Each of the pins on C-1 was ID'd and Cut. the wires from SEGR #'s 2, 4, and 7 were then soldered and shrunk to end going to ECU. The remaining 1,5,and 8 were similarly connected to remaining wire leading out of tray to sensors. Also the 'quick bench test' was used with favorable results prior to installation. The truck has 49K on her and has run the ORM and EHM since I found this forum a year ago. After todays festivities ad tomorrows work, I will find time to unravel and rework. thanks for the responses

I would especially look at segr wires 4 & 5 for a possible swap. It has happened to quite a few fellas an easy mistake to make. Also check 1 &2 for the same.

YAY Success!! After disconnnecting both C-1 and C-2, I had a friend help check continuity to harness from each. I also found the FCV and MAF connectors and checked there also. Everything tested good. I had 12v between pins 3 and 6. Even checked and had 12v on pin 9 when trans was out of park and neutral. Nothing needed changing, so everything went back in the raceway, connectors replaced, and the SEGR was installed; started Jeep and NO CEL. My code reader reported no codes. I'm not sure if the battery disconnection erased the codes, but they would not erase with code reader prior. Now the Jeep runs fine. No CEL, I felt the IP lights needed dimming, since there was no longer a persistent yellow glow in my face. I'll keep an eye on mileage, but it already feels like the shifts are different. Thanx to all responders and posters for their help. N

P.S. CD's now stuck in changer, any ideas?

Excellent! Congratulations are in order.

Don't know about that worthless CD player. Mine won't eject discs either.
