This is a run that your stock KK can make without to much trouble. It's a wonderful experience and shouldn't be missed if you can help it.

Okay guys... we're just over a month away from our trip. We need to start talking specifics, such as:

- who wants to caravan to Barstow?
- where are people staying Friday night?
- what time and where do we want to meet up on Saturday?

Beth and I are gong to motel it Friday night in Barstow. Early Saturday morning we're going to grab a good breakfast, then get ice and gas up.

I talked with KE7NEG (Dave) yesterday. He wants to caravan with us on Friday and is planning on camping Friday night. The only camp ground i know of is in Afton Canyon (5 miles into the trail). It's first come first served.

My suggestions:

- exchange cell numbers so we can be sure to be in touch

- for folks staying in town, meet up for breakfast and then head for the trail

- for folks camping in Afton Canyon... do you want to meet the rest of us at the camp or are you going to return to Barstow for ice etc?

- be at the trail head NLT 0900 and rollout. We can pick up the campers at Afton Canyon at the campground if that's where they want to meet us

We can firm things up at FITS and post the plan here.

AJ and Beth

Not sure if it will help with others wanting to do this trip or not, but i will volunteer to lead Team II if more people decide they can make it out. Gunna be doing a whole sleu of research the next few weeks for this trip, along with maintenance and maybe some new toys for the Jeep by the time this ride comes along. EXCITED!!!

Be sure to share that knowledge with us!!! I've read up on the trail and loaded some data into the GPS, that's about all I have.

Checked out the Mojave National Preserve Information on the nps.gov site and you can have 7 vehicles and 15 persons or more if you want in a group, you just have to pay a $50 one time recreational fee and fill out an application that can be found on their site. So we can all do it together if we wanted to, we'd just have to split up the $50 fee I suppose?

A Lot of good info on the nps.gov site about the area, plus their stocker Jeep Liberty is in some of the pics on the Mojave Road. Another thing of note is in the first line about the Mojave Road on their website they list it as an EAST-WEST ROUTE.

I talked with NPS and BLM in Barstow. They told me the limit was 6 and 14. Also there is a $70.00 application fee for larger groups. I decided to go with smaller groups spaced a mile or two apart rather than mess with fees. Unless we get some last minute explorers to sign on, we shouldn't have to worry about group size.

Yeah, all the guide books have the directions going East ----> West. We're running it in reverse.

We're less than a month away from the Mojave Road Expedition 2009 and counting!!!

I've nailed down our accommodations for Friday night in Barstow. We'll be staying at the Day's Inn at 1590 Cool Water Lane. Prices are in the $65.00~$75.00 range. Their phone number is (760) 256-1737 if anyone wants to make a reservation.

I have narrowed the meeting place/places down to two locations on May 23rd, depending on where everyone is staying the night before. They are:

- 0700 for breakfast at IHOP located at 1441 E. Main St, Barstow with an 0800 departure

For for those camping somewhere, or not staying in town:

- 0830 at I-15 Exit 221, Afton Canyon Rd

Please be fueled up and ready to go from either location. If you don't have my cell #, let me know, and I'll PM it to you.

Be sure to bring plenty of water and food for two days... there are no services at Exit 221 or anywhere along the trail. Also, it would be a good idea to bring an extra 5 gallons or so of fuel.

Would everyone please let me know where you'll be meeting up with the Expedition... either at IHOP or Exit 221? Don't want to loose anyone before we get started!! Thanks.

Team 1:

1. AZKJ +1 (meeting at IHOP)
2. Signcutter21 +1 (meeting at IHOP)
3. Oldhockeyvb +
4. 2006KJSPORT4x4 +2
5. JJsKJ + 1 (meet at IHOP around 0800)
6. KE7NEG +1 (meeting at IHOP)

What's everyone's thoughts on using my rear receiver hitch cargo rack on this trip. One of these things:

http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-mounted-cargo-carrier.htm

Is this something that would get hung up in a ditch somewhere or is the trail pretty flat?

Vern... from what I can make out, the trail is pretty flat for the most part. However, there seems to be some large washes that have some steep sandy banks which can be challenging according to Wells. Also, the climb to Ft Piute is rocky and borderline moderate. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Mike... are you going to pulling your trailer??

Dave... great, PM sent with phone#.. However, it looks like Beth and I won't be able to make the leisurely drive to Barstow Friday during the day like we wanted to do. We won't be getting into Barstow until late Friday night. Beth starts her new job on Monday and for the first three weeks her hours are 8~5. Bummer!!

Not a good pic, but this was a little hill we had to get up and over when we drove 8 miles into the trail last month....

cool i'll make my reservation to camp at Days Inn too.

Mmmm IHOP, I was there last month. Really nice waitress named Ilene. bwahahaha.

AJ, yes, i'll be bringing the trailer. I'll most likely have my propane hibatich stove too if anybody wants it. Planning on something yummy at least one night. I'm considering bringing the toliet if i get a privacy shelter some time soon.

Still trying to get new tires for trailer and have bed lined. As well as figure out storage containment so things dont go bouncing around in there.

On KJ, fluid change (at least oil and radiator).

I think if everybody can bring a couple pieces of firewood to, we will not have to sit around the Colman lantern and sing kum buy ya. haha.

Vern, some pics ive seen would indicate it'd be tough to with the extra overhang.

I'll be there. Rain or shine.

I got some things to knock out too. Shouldn't be too bad though.
