Hey guys,

I have a bit of an update on the JBA 2.5 lift, but it should apply to the 4" also. I had been noticing some "chattering" noises coming from my suspension when I was going over moderate bumps and road dividers. I was in Marlin's neighborhood again and took my Liberty by to see if the problem could be addressed.

Turns out, the rear spring on the driver side was coming in contact with a metal plate. You could actually see the wear on the plate and where the plate scrapped the powder coating off of my spring. After diagnosing this, we jacked the vehicle up and simply rotated the spring. We tested the suspension and found that it no longer made any type of contact with the metal plate.

Once the tire was back on, there is no way that spring is going to rotate (unwanted) again....so basically what I'm saying to you is: MAKE SURE THERE IS CLEARANCE THE FIRST TIME!!!!

Now I've just got some squeaking coming from the rear shocks...I think. But the chattering is totally resolved!

Likely, yours got put on correctly the first time. My rear passenger side was silent, but the rear driver was the problem.

Not sure if I'll be able to highlight the problem without taking my wheel off. I'll see what I can get.

Here...I borrowed Digger's picture....

Image

Basically you will see the yellow bumpstop inside of the rear spring....get underneath the vehicle so you can reach it, and follow that up with your hand. You'll come to a black metal plate/round piece that surrounds the yellow bumpstop. The upper outside edge of that metal piece was coming in contact with the inner edge of one the upper rungs on my rear driver side spring. When the wheel was off I could see the scratching it caused on the plate/piece and on the spring. Just now, I was able to feel the scratches with my hand...though I can't locate them on the spring since it has been rotated and I am too lazy to follow the whole spring searching for the problem.

If anyone starts hearing a chattering noise, I suggest opening the passenger door, gripping the roof and rocking the vehicle. This is what Marlin and his associate did to recreate the noise, and they were able to diagnose the problem.

Actually, that picture is perfect! If your eyes are good enough to read this post, you'll be able to see the lip on that black piece in Digger's most recent pic. That is the part that was getting chewed up.

Here is a better Pic of what you are talking about.
Was it the outer or inner part of the spring that was hitting?

Digger: yes, if that is the name for the black metal piece.

Scar0: It was the side closest to the tire (so outer), but it was the inside of the spring that was making contact (it would be nearly impossible for the outside to make contact on something housed inside of the spring).

Thanks unclejjg.
The inside of the spring was rubbing. Got it. Good to know and I will keep my eyes and ears open.
