Whoever you want to blame for ruining the economy. The car companys would still be selling cars if that did not happen.

Stop blaming the unions.

Chrysler failed for a multitude of reasons but the union was not solely responsible for the failure of a company.

Of course your right. But, the best thing for Chrysler right now would be bankrupsy. That would allow a judge to cancel all existing contracts and allow Chrysler to compete without union interference with all the other foreign companies that arent burdened unions. Equal footing so to speak.

I know this is going to be locked due to so many saying its the Unions fault...but why is Ford doing half way OK? They have unions ....management has a lot more to do with it than anything

I think the key to what you said is, "half way ok" Whereas Toyota and all the others that dont have the ball and chain, boat anchor of unions and pensions and medical benies for people who havent worked there for twenty years dragging them down.....

I dont want to see these companies fail either, but get with the program already.

so all of those off shore companies are doing OK, don't think so, but then their governments give them money all of the time for research and development that US companies do not get. You do not hear about the off shore companies as much but they are trying to cut some great deals to sell their junk

The executives who decided to kill the CRD because they sold out of all of their test case engines in 18 months instead of 2 years like they budgeted.

Everyone on here is correct.
Unions started the problem by getting greedy. (had their time, but Unions need to go away much like affirmative action in my opinion) Next the biggest part, management did not properly adjust their practices to accomodate what the Union swindled out of them. Instead they allowed quality to suffer, thus creating an inferior product and creating more costs further down the line. They did the same thing long ago, but the Government sent them military contracts to save them, then they did fine until they squandered that. I am willing to bet the foriegn companies are in just as much trouble, but are more secretive. The big difference is the quality of the products, unfortunately, the foriegn models have the better rep.

One thing did not kill Chrysler, if you read the article linked above, it suggests the Germans sabotaged Chrysler from the start of the DC era, and that began the final downslide.

I don't care really, I just wish they would get done with it already so we all can move on. I also hope the challenger does not die with Chrysler...

It‘s very disheartening to watch Chrysler disintegrate. I’ve always liked Chrysler products, not because they were superior, but because they were different than Ford and Chevy. I went to the dealer yesterday and was amazed to see the lot filled with Chrysler cars, trucks, and SUV’s. I’ve never seen so many automobiles on the lot before. I was even more amazed to see NEW 2007 Commanders that still haven’t been sold. What the heck? NEW 2007’s? I went to start the Commander and found the battery dead. This was a realization that Chrysler is dead also.

Well you can really tell here in Toledo that things are really slow. When I moved here 4 years ago there were 4 or 5 huge lots with Wranglers and KJs sitting and waiting to be shipped out, some with several hundred Jeeps as far as you could see. Today its hard to see any at all on any lot even up at the plant there are not that many sitting around.

Blame can be spread evenly for sure But do not want to go down or its used for me from now on.
I have NEVER owned an overseas vehicle AND never will. Always bought Ford, GMC, Jeep and Harley! Will not post what several of my bumper stickers said

The good news is we can look forward to driving past broken-down FIATs again like back in the day. Assuming the UAW in the US will agree to the concessions the Canadians did. I wonder what a Chrysler-badged FIAT would look like?
