Glend, i just came back from Team JaG's place and they seemed to be prepared to go a week earlier(leave Friday 14/8) (just so i did'nt miss out) , and do the simpson.but in reverse go to longreach and on to Alice and around that area and then on to Birdsville. We'd like to be back in Brisbane by the 5/9 so that would give you time to back in Sydney by the 4/9(I'd rather do the simpson with like minded people)So i would leave Arkaroola and Wilpena for another trip.We would probably meet the other LOST guys somewhere between Birdville and MT Dare comming the other way. Would you be interested? or anybody else for that matter.

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay in replying it's been a mad house since returning from Coffs with work ,doctors appointments and anzac day.
I am still a go for the trip and the dates and timings are ok for me can't wait counting down and planing on what I am all ready taking with me.
Sorry to hear nobbster, glend and palla can't come and play with the rest of us.
I can still meet up with the GC lost party and start from there if it helps out.
Cheers Frog

Talking to a 4wd (Toyo Troopy) mate yesterday and he suggested that as a worthwhile detour. Apparently if we drive through Finke we are likely to be inspected for alcohol as it is a dry community.

Will check this out before Saturday.

OK, an update following Saturday's lunch at Team J.a.G's (thanks guys, great time).

Cmohr is stuck with only having a fortnight, but dates may be more flexible following the resignation of their General Manager.

Team J.a.G is locked into the 22nd August to 13th September time slot due to J's work committments.

NTJeep is locked into the fortnight from 22nd August to 6th Sept (I think).

Nobster is currently locked into having to be back by 6th Sept, but is investigating the possibility of also getting the week to 13th Sept (means convincing a work colleague to change his dates). He doesn't want to be limited to only 3 days at the centre so will probably not join us if the plans stay as is.

General advice seems to be that the west-east trip is easier (especially for trailers) than the east-west trip, as the prevailing winds make the eastern side of the dunes the steeper climb. However doing the crossing west-east would mean moving it from the beginning (25th Aug) to the end (5-6 Sept) which is no good for NTJeep and probably no good for Cmohr either.

NTJeep, G'Me Mud, gi frog, your comments are needed here. How solid are your dates, and are there any changes you would like to see in the itinerary?

The dates are flexable with us. The only restriction is having to be back at work by the school holidays, 20th September. We are going to take the Grand with the camper so if it is easier to go west to east, that might suit bettter, but in saying that I don't see it as a problem going the other way either, may be more time required but I am confident we can do it, there is enough vehicles to help where required, I'll have to get into doing a bit of reseach soon looking into llift kit, have indicated my interest in a snorkel on ausjeep but don't know when that is going to happen.

Righto! We are stuck with the dates we have got, (24th at Birdsville,(3 days travel to there) through to 6th september home). 16 days is enough for us to travel across and see a fair bit of the rest of Alice area. The way I see it, is that the crossing, if every body who wants to go along can, and then the differing time schedules come into play, whether you have 2 weeks or 3 weeks, you can go and do whatever, AFTER the crossing.

Travelling west/ east, would not previous traffic have knocked the tops off a bit by late August? either way is OK, just a thought.

I thought we weren't dragging trailers anyway/ not recommended? Just wondering about the hassle of trailers?

So it comes down to who can go when, and which direction. We are OK either way, but are stuck with our dates, If things are changed, we will still be doing Uluru and surrounds on those dates, and maybe catch up with you mob somewhere, i hope thats not the case are we are keen for a crossing of the desert, (i'm also sure we can go east west, i should say?)!)
Any way thats our 2 bobs, lets get some definite dates, plans happening yeah?
Cheers guys!

At present the dates ARE definite - leave Brisbane/Gold Coast on the 22nd, meet in Birdsville on the 24th, do the Simpson E-W to arrive at Uluru somewhere around the 28th-29th. The discussion was just to see how much flexibility we had to accommodate those who found the dates difficult - the answer seems to be, not a lot.

Currently we have 3 trailers coming with us - just have to see how we get on!

Yep, thats all good then!
Now, what is planned for spare parts etc.?
I was going to bring my spare wheel (obviously!) and a spare carcass, Just to lower the weight a bit, and it can travel on the roof. Question: is any one else doing that? does any one have tyre pliers (or changing tools) or do i need to purchase (or should i get another spare wheel?) Just things to start considering.
I have a good compressor.
Bought a Waeco 50L fridge on the weekend! ($999) thanks to Rudd.
I will be removing the rear seat and extending the floor for the trip, somewhere to carry 4 Jerrys, + 50L water and assorted other gear!
Should be interesting packing all this in the jeep!
Also looking at getting the GPS set up for the Laptop.......
What else??............................
Lets have some suggestions and some idea of spares, shared other gear....
Cheers

As far as I know we can buy them at Birdsville, but if you want to buy them online before then there is no reason not to.
