Tonight i started hearing some noise coming from the transfer case both while in 2 and 4wd when i crawled under it i am seeing alot of greese spin off from the knuckle on the front drive shaft. I'm talking about the end towards the transfer case not the diff end. On the diff end there is a rubber boot but on the transfer case end there is not. I don't know if there ever was but maybe that is something. My next posting will have some pics. Please give me some feedback I have to do some serious traveling this weedend and need my jeep. Thanks in advance

There is suppose to be an inverted boot back there, not very big at all. Several have went recently it seems, cdiekhans, thunderbirds and mine as well, always the rear also

remove the driveshaft and go on your trip, takes ten minutes maybe

The boot is there. If I pull the bolts the go around that knuckle can i re pack it and maybe regain some life. This thing only has 40k on it and only been lightly wheeled nothing major yet. except one accident in a deeper than expected water hole. that don't count

can't repack it, grease will just be thrown back out, part of the boot may still be in there, but with the way its already thrown grease out its done for more than likely

pull it out and run it. Chris did for a while, Tbird and I both are now

What are you going to do about yours? Is there some place that can rebuild it?

ThunderbirdJunkie is going to drop his off at a driveshaft shop on Friday morning, and picking up Tom's later that day. ThunderbirdJunkie will guarantee his local guy can do it for under $200, but how far under...he does not know. Since ThunderbirdJunkie works for a shop, this fellow is hooking him up, most likely to try to drum up business.

Anyway, ThunderbirdJunkie did not hear the noise until on a recent 4 wheeling trip in low range when it felt like the driveshaft was trying to come through the floor. No grease visible on the underbelly of the psycho blue hose beast.

If it works out to be cheaper for you to ship it here, take it to the shop, and ship it back, ThunderbirdJunkie will be more than happy to do the legwork for you to help out this super-knowledgeable guy and you alike. Maybe he can be LOST's official front driveshaft rebuilder?

And as far as buying used...why would you buy the same junk that probably has the same problem?

BTW, stumpjumper...you need a ratchet, to leave the KJ in 2wd, a jack, and an 8mm deep, a 15 and a 19mm socket and a ratchet and a 3" extension.
Despite having work less than 10 miles away, and air tools at his disposal, with lots of cussing, mud in his face, and everything else, after dropping the trans crossmember because ThunderbirdJunkie not wanting to break the bolts on the exhaust, it was done in the driveway after like 5 beers and 2 hrs.

Good luck!

Or did you mean 85KPH...???

I am not sure that I have ever even had my KJ past 80MPH since I lifted it.....
