I need a picture of a 2005 or newer KJ without the plastic fascia that goes under the doors. The plastic piece of trim that is curved and goes from below font fender to rear fender is what I am referring to. I need to see what the KJ looks like under that plastic. Thanks.

Inc, no pic, but IIRC they are the exact same as the 02-04. The 05-07's just had the plastic changed on the bottom of the flares and added the fake plastic bar that you stated. So a pic of any year should work for you.

So does anyone have a pic of an earlier model without that plastic piece that came on the 05+ models?

Not the best shot but I remembered that we removed Lionseye's when we installed her rockrails. Not sure but I think hers is an 05.

You might pm her and see if she can get a better picture of hers for ya. It is different than my 03.

It looks like what i have in mind might work. I wish I knew what was underneath that part of the body below the doors. Is it hollow like the XJ or????

Thanks for the help so far. I am going to PM lionseye for a closer shot.

There was a guy here on LOST that removed those plastic covers and had a metal shop custom build some body-hugging sliders. Turned out really nice. I'll see if I can find that old thread...

Rockers are hollow. Gonna hack them out and boatside it down to the frame? Double dog dare ya.

Or just cut them and insert some 2x3 ubing in place for rockers/sliders in one. That is what I am close to doing.

I was thinking both ways
was looking at boatsiding first ,
but then was mocking up 2 X 3 tubing (OR 3X4) with three braces back to the frame ( for just in case )

If I had a welder sitting here it would of been done already, have had it all taped off twice now

I have been thinking about using round pipe and making something as close to stock looking as possible but still function. I let you know if this "pipe" dream ever happens.

I have some 12 foot of 6 inch steel pipe think that would work
pipe would keep more to the original look maybe even cut the back part out to have it sit a little better

I met Eric, the guy who wrote the book on XJs, and he and the guy I bought my D30 from both have done the 2x4 and 2x4 rocker replacement. I am gonna go the same route as them I think.

Is 2X4 big enough? Maybe I am looking wrong, but it seems like 3X4 would stick out and down a little more and give more protection, looks like the KJs have a larger area there to fill than a XJ does. Could be wrong just holding up different sizes of metal and boards I have lying around trying to visulize

I meant to type 2x4 and 2x6. I'm not sure how much space is there to fit a 4" vs a 6" piece. I'd rather use the larger piece and make it stick out just to where the fender flares come out, maybe an inch past.

Thats what I was looking at, make it to where the fender comes out to or somewhere about there.

Guess someone  is going to have to cut in and find out what looks and works the best. Anyone who's been in my garage can tell you I have been talking about this for way over a year now.

I'm gonna do it, just needed to know what was behind there and if it would screw things up. Doesn't sound like it will.
