OK, after the huge response from my other thread and all the pages to sort through, I got permission to make a new post with the updated pictures of the first cardboard mockup of the rear bumper. I have the measurements I need now to draw up the plans to give my manufacturer to start the first real prototype. I plan to have the design plans finished by the end of this week. I also plan to start the first mockup of the front bumper by next weekend. If you have any questions, please read through the old thread, because about everything has been addressed there. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... sc&start=0

This thread is to update those that didn't want to keep up with the other 13+ page thread, and for those who would like to be added to the waiting/update list. The mockup is not perfect and not complete, but it gives the basic idea of how the bumper itself will look.

So, here she is.

Looks great, but will the spare tire still be able to be located in the same place without the accessory? If so, where will the license plate go? I love the design though!

if you haven't added me to the list yet, count me in! So far just the rear bumper w/o the swing gates. (At least until you have finalized the price of the rear w/the swing gates!)

You're doing a great job, and a great service to all of us here on L.O.S.T., along with whomever owns a KJ! Thanks doesn't even begin to cover it! Keep up the awesome job!

Rod told me you had moved. I had wondered why I hadn't heard from you in so long. I would like to get my skid plate, bumper cover, and rock crawling book back. I guess powder coating the rock rails is out of the question. Give me a call when you get a chance.

Mike.

Yikes! That looks top notch!
Powder coated to match the ARB front bumper and the "Sport" flares, it'd be absolutely superb.

Regarding the number-plate mount. Here's a shot of mine, there's a plate which mounts behind the spare (on same studs as the wheel) and then a bar sticks out of the middle of it through the spare onto which the number plate mounts. The bar sticking out is (obviously) fixed, and the number plate bracket attaches to it with hex-bolts. The number plate lights are connected to the car via a waterproof connector. This makes it easy to get the number plate off when I need to remove my spare tyre.

In my case the number plate's off to one side 'cos the shovel/axe mount is in the middle, but if you did something similar you could have it in the middle. Also, this would allow you to use the same mount for both "standard" fitment, using the original door mount, and with the swing-away wheel carrier.

A Picture;

Maybe a PM would have been more appropriate?

Mount the license plate on the spare tire through the center hole with a linch pin to hold it on (mounted like a reciever hitch where the license plate would be the part that is inserted into the reciever).

personally, I would love to have the license plate mounted someplace other than in the middle of the spare as that's where I plan to mount a spot light. I guess i could mount the light next to the jerry can. Just throwing something out there to consider. Now I have to figure out where to put this on my priority list since I'm convinced I'm gonna buy one when I can afford it.

Bumpers then lift later,........ lift then bumpers a little later,.........wonder how much the IRS is giving me back? Wonder if my wife will miss the refund if I use most of it on the KJ! Oh well gotta do what you gotta do.
If the front looks half as good as the rear I can not wait for the final mock up. Keep up the good work, Rock Lizard!

Well, you will hear about it alot, but just tell her what I tell Tricia... At least the other woman is a Jeep and the tailpipe is not near as soft as she is!!!

I know gross, but I had to make a funny!!!!

That mock up rear just looked awesome on my Jeep!!! I didn't want to take it off! I can't wait to see it in steel!!!

Now it is going to be real hard to wait, but These bumpers are going to be real quality, ant RL is really thinking forward to try to acomodate future aftermarket fuel skid plates, aftermarket hitches if people want to still put a hitch under the bumper. He really knows what he is doing. So we just will need to be patient I guess, but man I am Drooling!!!! (See my Jeep is my "mistress" )

Great job, Please keep up the great work. I was on the other list please add me to this list too. The license plate mount is the last thing to worrie about, you can mount it just about any were. there is a lot of aftermarket plate brackets out there. I'am just happy we have someone who is interested in helping us with this. thanks for all the hard work and all your support. Now I will have somewere to mount my CB antenna.THANKS  P.S. I would be interested in front and rear bumpers with spare tire and gas can mounts

He is adding a Hitch receiver in the middle below the groove for the spare (for those not getting the spare swing arm or fuel can swing arm.

For the license plate, why couldnt you have one of those spring loaded ones that you flip up when you have the hitch in and when you are not pulling anything it would cover the open area or just have a bracket that slids in to the receiver and light would plug into the trailer harness. Trying to think of something simple. I have used both of the above methods when I was in to lowered trucks (for a short time of my life) I really do not want to put mine on the wheel, but it would work.
Just thinking out loud

And by the way she already knows that my Liberty is right behind if not equal to her! She has already said that I like working on the KJ more than........well almost more on somedays!

Just curious to know if the stock bumper mounts and dimensions differ from year to year??? Is that gonna be a problem with fabricating for differnt model year KJ's?

I'm almost positive the rears have not changed, although the fronts have, but just to be sure, once I get this thing prototyped out, if I can't find a local 05-06 model, maybe I'll rent one from Budget for a couple days, take it apart, and test fit the bumper.:D

well, the stock bumper is plastic, so there are no factory mounts, just pop rivets to hold the plastic bumper on, then a few rivets screws and 2 bolts on each side to hold the cover on.

also the rear has not changed only the fronts of the grille cover and fender flares on the 05 and newer
