I was wondering if anyone else has had their check engine light come on,... and loose cruise control at the same time. ( the cruise control light wouldn't come on .. nor would the cruise control engage. )
I've only had my CRD about 2 months, and this is the first real problem I've incounted, other than the '55mph bunny hop' .

Did you take this to the dealership? What did they say?

I had my CEL come on at 500 miles, and the dealership told me it was the fuel cap. I knew that it was not the fuel cap, so I humored them and checked the fuel cap. Nope, on just fine.

The dealership told me it would be $50 to check the code (remember, I had just driven this thing new off their lot not a full week prior).

So I let the jeep wait a few starts and stops to reset the light, and went to Autozone and have them check the code. They were amazed, they had never checked a OBD code for a less than week old vehicle before...

Sure enough, it was NOT the fuel cap.

My problem was my brake light switches. I brought it in and read them the code. They said, "Yep, fuel cap." I said, NO - go look it up. They went in the back, came out and said - Oh, thats the brake lights... They took it in and fixed them...

Moral? The $tealership will always try and blame the customer. :)

My CEL came on last night when I was getting ready to go fishing(I hate when my time fishing gets inerupted). But anyway my wife took it in to the dealer this AM and they said it was transmission codes but did not elaborate. They reset them test drove it and said they didn't find a problem. Hopefully it was just a fluke and won't reoccur. I tried the key trick last night and could not get it to flash codes.

So how is that supposed to work? Where can we find the current fault codes that will include CRD faults?

Well, I was able to display the codes on my crd using the key trick pretty easy, just wish I knew how to clear them out.

First, make sure the odometer is on the Tripodmeter setting...
Dont have to go super fast either..

Off - On
Off - On
Off - On
Off - On

Codes will then display in the Tripodemeter.
Then you can just look up the codes on any ODBII list.

Any one know how to clear them?

With out the OBD diagnostic tool I believe you simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

the old battery trick doesn't work on the new cars they didn't like us fixing our own cars! so now you have to have a OBD scanner to clear codes. correct me if I am wrong, but this what I understand!
